Well if God doesn’t exist to the atheist then why do they go into a panty wad over a little harmless prayer to a non-existent god? Mmmmmmmmmmm?

They are outting their intolerance - big deal, even if the court sides with them someone else can promote and and say “someone who can’t be named due to atheists throwing a fit will be in attendance”

Would it make the atheist mad if he only read the Declaration of Independence which mentions creator, God and Divine Providence?

Perry should sue them for NOT attending. That’s how stupid this is....

What a great line.

This is the kind of whiny attitude that gives us atheists a bad rep.

I don't think any taxpayer money should be spent on the "day of prayer", but as long as it's not, Governor Perry should be free to attend and to publicize it as much as he wants.

Yep, that’s it in a nutshell.

“...According to a transcript of the private meeting, organized to raise funds for Perry’s Aug. 6 “day of prayer and fasting” at Reliant Stadium, the governor stated that property rights, government regulation and a “legal system that’s run amok” were threatening the American way of life and “it’s time to just hand it over to God and say ‘God, you’re gonna have to fix this.’”......

There can be no :freedom from religion” for atheists without denying the First Amendment rights of every other citizen of the country.
“Freedom from religion” would mean no crosses, stained glass windows, or signs, etc. on any building used for worship of any kind. It means no religious jewelry could be worn. It would mean the elimination of religious radio, tv, music, and literature in bookstores, lest an atheist catch a glimpse of a Bible.
That’s an awfully tall order over something that supposedly does not exist.
These people are after money and fame, in that order.

The lengths to which some will go just for a little self-affirmation can be stunning in its misguidedness.

Not only do they wish not to pray, they do not want YOU to pray either.

The lawsuit might actually help Perry by giving him a face-saving excuse to disentangle himself from the nut jobs associated with the event.

“Maybe people would want to lock me up,” Perry said on an American Family Association radio show. “I think about those who talk about Christian faith as being intolerant. Isn’t it just the height of intolerance to say you can’t gather together in public and pray to our God?” The Freedom From Religion Foundation, an atheist group, has filed suit against the Aug. 6 gathering at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

“You don’t hear much about the Muslims. You don’t hear much when it’s the Buddhists or whatever. I think the reason is there are those who are very concerned that the prayers will be heard and that things will happen. And that’s what happens with Christians come together and pray.”

The “Freedom from Religion Foundation” is itself a religion in the sense that its members, supporters, followers have a far greater faith in its mission than do many who practice ‘mainline’ religions.

What the HECK does a state governor have to do with tlohe imaginary “separation of church and state”???...even IF that were a legitimate concept from our founders, it doesn’t apply to states. EVERY SINGLE STATE in the union at the time of the signing of the Constitution had their own Constitutions that read like a sunday school lesson, they are so religious. Many/most states still have lots of references to christianity in their constitutions.
