The Enemy Within: Negotiating with Hamas
Jerusalem World News ^ | 7/08/11 | Mike Evans

A terrorist organization is at the center of gravity in a newly proposed Middle East peace plan fashioned by the European Union. It is no surprise that the Liberal Left in America is in full agreement. President Obama has scheduled a July 11 summit in Washington instead of just “saying no” to Mahmoud Abbas and his plan for unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state at the United Nations in September.

Each time Israel is summoned to a farsical meeting such as this, she loses land, people, and bargaining power. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is being dragged to Washington once again to appease the Arab world. It was this concept of appeasement that drove Mr. Obama’s speech on May 19. During that address, he called for the Israeli government to return to its 1967 borders—a move that would surely jeopardize the future of the tiny Jewish nation.

To negotiate with the Palestinian Authority would mean bargaining with not one but two soon-to-be-united terrorist organizations: Hamas and Fatah. The liberal EU is now insisting that Hamas be allowed a seat at the table. This is the organization responsible for lobbing thousands of rockets into Israel in attempts to fulfill its charter by targeting Jews. Given that information, why then does President Obama continue to insist that the Israelis negotiate with such an evil enemy?

President Obama seems to see nothing wrong with dancing with the devil. Liberals have a difficult time seeing moral issues clearly because most are moral relativists. They reject absolute standards of good and evil or right and wrong. In their worldview Man is capable of perfection, human nature is on a path towards enlightenment, and the concept of original sin is primitive.

These humanists reinvented Arafat in the 1990s as a peacemaker and gave him the façade of a freedom fighter not a terrorist. Now the same extreme makeover is being applied to Hamas. In the eyes of humanists, those who blow up Jews are driven to such acts because of injustice and provocation. The victims of these crimes are seen as the source of the problem, and the terrorists are seen as the innocent and exploited.

In this age of moral relativism, political correctness, fear of offending others, self-justification, and liberalism, we sympathize with the murderer and blame the victim; we point fingers at the rape victim and make excuses for the rapist; we blame the innocent for the attacks that kill and maim, while the attackers simply become “freedom fighters.” In a culture where wickedness is condoned, the innocent suffer repeatedly. They are victimized by the criminal, the court, and the media. The Liberal Left rationalizes this little game play in order to justify a lack of moral virtue and to make themselves feel better.

In response to President Obama’s feel-better summit scheduled for July 11, Prime Minister Netanyahu pressed PA negotiators to return to talks without preconceived conditions. He also established six fundamentals upon which the Israelis believe peace can be realized: ■“mutual recognition between two states, two nation-states for two peoples: a Jewish State which means a nation-state, the nation-state of the Jewish people, Israel, and a nation-state for the Palestinians.” ■“the refugee problems are settled in these two respective states – the question of Palestinian refugees will be resolved in the Palestinian state and not in Israel.” ■“the demilitarization of the Palestinian state.” ■“to incorporate what are called the settlement blocs, these large, urban communities that are fairly dense and concentrated alongside Greater Tel Aviv and Greater Jerusalem, and other areas of critical, strategic and national importance in the final borders of Israel.” ■“Jerusalem must remain united, under Israeli sovereignty.” ■“the ending of the conflict, the ending of the claims.”

As an indication of Israel’s commitment to the talks, an Israeli outpost in the West Bank was demolished last week. On another encouraging note, the U.S. Senate voted to eliminate $600 million in annual aid to the Palestinian Authority if they insist on pursuing unilateral recognition at the UN in September. Another reality is that by merging with Hamas the PA would lose is eligibility for any U.S. aid. Not surprisingly, there are wide fissures in the ongoing negotiations between Hamas and Fatah—primarily over the choice of leadership for the proposed unity government and over the PA’s thrust for recognition at the UN.

The time has come for President Obama to stand up for America’s staunchest ally in the Middle East: Israel. President John Adams said, “Because power corrupts, society’s demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases.” This nation needs a leader with unassailable moral authority.

Solzhenitsyn noted that although U.S. politicians engage in occasional outbursts in dealing with weak governments, they became paralyzed when dealing with foreign powers and international terrorists. This is not the time for the leader of the free world to take the easy way out; it is time for him to take the road less traveled and support Israel.

Not a bad piece, but the author makes a critical mistake here:

Liberals have a difficult time seeing moral issues clearly because most are moral relativists. They reject absolute standards of good and evil or right and wrong. In their worldview Man is capable of perfection, human nature is on a path towards enlightenment, and the concept of original sin is primitive.

That may have been true in the past, but the modern liberal has moved even further. They don't merely reject absolute standards of good and evil or right and wrong. They actively choose evil and wrong, believing this choice will lead to personal power for them. And so far, they've been correct.

Problem for them is someone else has something to say about this regarding Israel:

Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.

And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

Because he is a Muslim.

These humanists reinvented Arafat in the 1990s as a peacemaker and gave him the façade of a freedom fighter not a terrorist.

I seem to remember that he was awarded the Nobel Prize for his efforts.

That is not encouraging. It's an outrage that we have been paying this money. Where are their rich Muslim brothers? That's right. They want to keep their Islamic brothers down to deflect attention from themselves.

Stick to your guns Mr. Prime Minister. Many of us here in the US see the nature of your enemies. Try to hold out until we un-elect the bozo we call president.

.... unilateral recognition of a Palestinian [sic!] state....

Ah, yes, the Kosovo precedent. “The gift that keeps on giving”!

And wouldn’t you know that the European Union is involved, just as with the detachment of Kosovo from Serbia and the continuing, relentless attack on Serbia, her people, and her Church by the EU, the Hillary State Department, Soros, the “human rightser” cabal, etc. etc.
