The leader of Jamaat-e-Islami of Pakistan, the country’s largest and most powerful pro-Sharia party, recently affirmed that a woman should not report being raped unless she has four male Muslim witnesses who saw the act.

He bases his claim on Qur’anic ground: “Why did they not produce four witnesses? Since they produce no witnesses, they verily are liars in the sight of Allah” (Qur’an 24:13).

Any woman unfortunate enough to live in such an area and unable to reach civilization should learn to use an equalizer. When the government fails to provide justice or protection, we have to turn to our God-given (NOT "Allah"-given) right to protect ourselves. There will never be four witnesses unless it was a gang rape. If the government is on the rapist's side, it is better that she should leave zero witnesses or return later to resolve that omission.
