TAMPA, FL (WTSP/CNN) - Most college students pick either male or female when filling out dorm applications, but there's now a third option at the University of South Florida for transgender.

"At least it's some kind of a combination for people might not fit into the two check boxes," USF's P.R.I.D.E. Alliance Vice President Ashley Gunn said.

Some students said they couldn't be happier to hear their friends, their classmates, who are transitioning from one sex to another, have new options to live on campus as USF.

"It means that people won't have to be so afraid to pursue themselves," Gunn said.

This fall, USF will let transgendered students live alone, with a friend, or randomly with someone else.

The most controversial part of this plan is that the university said they're going to give no prior notice to students.

So, for instance, a male student might think that he's living with another male student, when in reality he's living with someone transitioning to be a female.

Some students said it was unacceptable that they wouldn't be notified, and one even said he would be "freaked out by it."

It’s crazy, but if they have their own dorm, that keeps them away from everybody else. Might be the best result, compared to being in a dorm at Yale, which is mandatory and 1/3rd pervert.

Or looked at another way.... assuming the female version turned out "hot and horny", that's the stuff college boys used to fantasize about.

Unfortunately, most of the males who want to become female are not exactly "hot" as females.

WHAT?!? They're singling out these transgendered and forcing them into segregated dorms? What is this, separate but equal? HOW DARE THEY OFFEND THE TRANSGENDERED! They should respect their sexual identity and immediately rescind this transgendered-phobic attitude, and simply assign dorms based upon the sexual identity presented. Students should learn to live with this; after all, isn't Florida one of the many states that permits the transgendered to enter and use restroom facilities for their identity gender? Unisexual people should learn to accept that not every woman has all the right parts, even in the shower...
