Strauss-Kahn to face rape suit by Tristane Banon

French writer Tristane Banon is to file a lawsuit for attempted rape against former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, her lawyer says.

The lawyer, David Koubbi, said the suit referred to an incident in 2002 when Ms Banon went to interview Mr Strauss-Kahn in a flat in Paris.

Mr Strauss-Kahn was recently freed from house arrest in New York in a separate alleged sex assault case.

He denies assaulting a hotel maid in the US city on 14 May.

It was shortly after Mr Strauss-Kahn was arrested in New York that Ms Banon came forward to say that he had tried to assault her in 2002.

She did not go to the police, but did raise the allegation in a TV chat show in 2007, when Mr Strauss-Kahn's name was bleeped out.

Mr Koubbi said the suit would be filed on Tuesday. He had previously said it would not be filed until Mr Strauss-Kahn's New York trial had finished.

Ms Banon, 32, has claimed that at the 2002 interview, Mr Strauss-Kahn said he would only speak to her if she held his hand.

According to her version of events she eventually had to fight him off as they wrestled on the floor and he tried to unhook her bra and unbutton her jeans.

I’m a little divided over this issue. Would he make a good president? Well, he won’t take no for an answer. But then again, he’ll do anything to screw you.

I don't think the thing with the maid was a political setup but political opportunism is easy to believe.

This sounds bogus to me too, sort of like the charges against the wikileaks weirdo. However, the Algore crazed sex-poodle incident didn’t ring true either but then there was that sudden divorce from Tipper...

There is a statute of limitations on civil lawsuits.

Otherwise, the door would never be closed.

The concept behind statute of limitations is time is the enemy of justice. Evidence may no longer available. Witnesses forget or die. A long-delayed filing of a civil lawsuit implies the case was not serious enough at the outset to merit a timely filing. Even the IRS doesn't require you to keep tax records indefinitely.

Even criminal prosecutions have time limits except for heinous crimes such as murder.

Chapeau! to Decimon for the post.
Tristane Banon has been telling the same story for years. Nobidy paid any attention until they woke up to the DSK Sofitel assault.
DSK has a long, known history as a sexual predator. That’s why nobody in France was shocked. The Socialists were looking at DSK as their only hope to beat Sarko and were willing to sell their souls to win an election, betting on the Devil.

This was actually made public a long time ago. She didn’t file charges at the time, however, because she was just starting out as a journalist and he had that all-important thing, power.

I think maybe she’s getting disgusted by seeing a bunch of massively well-paid defense attorneys here in the US basically getting him off by destroying the victim in the press. That’s what they do, and that’s what they’re hired to do, and if you have as much money as he does, you can get some really evil ones.

Christine Banon probably realizes that this is what would have happened to her if she had made the charges at the time, and maybe she’s just the tiniest bit angry that he has apparently made a world-wide career of acting like a “chimp in heat.”
