No building, no need for building inspectors they should all been fired, but no they are now revenue agents writing tickets to generate funds for the county.
This reminds me of an interesting yet very irritating thing that happened to me when I still lived in Florida.
I had a code enforcement agent come driving down our very out of the way street and issue me a code infraction for mildew on my north wall.
So out came the pressure washer and it was gone. But I had to send them a notice that I had complied and the same agent came out and compared the wall to a picture she had taken to confirm to herself that I had complied.
And yes, I’m still ticked off about that.
I agree. I can't believe the sort of things they are doing -- also when Pelosi and others shut the water off to the farmers (Hannity actually had some good specials on this).
What about the Magne Carte??? Didn’t that change some of your statement? Was John Locke totally ineffective after all???
Who would YOU rather live next to? Someone who believes he has the right to do as he pleases with his own property, or a county code enforcer?
Care to explain how Article Six is being violated by the enforcement of building codes? This should be interesting.
Of course it will. It always has, even in WWII. We didn't try the guys who bombed Dresden with war crimes did we?
Heck, we shipped a good number of the Nazi's here to use them in our space program! Why? Because they were spoils of war and we won.
There is a line, which universally is over stepped by most governments...
I agree with both of those statements. I live in a small town, (Population 1,600) and I familiarized myself with the zoning laws before I ever moved here 20 years ago, for instance, I have a large corner lot, I'd like to have a 6' fence but can't. I knew that before I bought the property. 4' is the limit, so as not to obstruct the view of drivers turning on my corner. That one makes sense.
In my 20 years, here I have never run into a zoning law that aggravates me. I don't know of a single mobile home in my town, no cars in yards sitting on blocks, no tall weeds in yards etc. "Eye sores" simply aren't tolerated and yes, I realize that means someone gets to decide what an "eye sore" is.
My suggestion for anyone who doesn't agree with an area's zoning laws is, don't buy there.
We have a Mayor and town council and all meetings are open to the public, all those elected officials are responsive to the people.
Lest you think, I think this is Utopia - I live in Illinois, state government is an entirely different animal.
“In return for you paying your property taxes like a good little citizen, they generously allow you to live on it,...”
I don’t know where you lived before you ran off to the Czech Republic or what it’s like there, but around here we get to vote on property taxes. Sometimes one side prevails in the vote, sometimes the other.
Now there may sometimes be a problem with how those who control the local government enforce or react to the outcome of the vote, but it’s not a matter the State owning all the property. It’s a matter of the citizens and neighbors voting and thereby determining what should be done.
I want my property to appreciate in value, so I would rather live next door to the code enforcer.
The sole questions regarding zoning and codes should be (1) will it cause harm? (2)what kind of harm will it cause? (3) who will it harm?
"Because I said so" is NOT an acceptable answer.
Here’s what’s wrong with your argument: these people don’t HAVE neighbors like most people (someone you wave at in the next driveway as you head off to work in the morning). They own plenty of acreage so that no one is in their sightline.
There is no evidence that anyone except government is complaining about the shipping containers and crazy artwork.
You have a right not to have to consider “the neighbors” if you can buy enough land to make it possible; that’s one reason these guys end up in the desert. Pursuit of happiness and all.
And if you don’t have neighbors to offend, you should be able to whatever the hell you want on your own land, short of running a meth lab.
I think it's called Agenda 21 now.
That's why we have ELECTED city, county officials who make those types of decisions
We don't like their decisions or they get corrupt or too big for their britches, we petition them or replace them
No man is an island to himself
Guess you missed the part in the article that pointed out that the vacant land around these eyesores is in fact under private ownership. The owners simply haven't developed their land yet. With junkyards adjacent to their properties, I see why they have chosen not to develop. BTW, from the description of their financial circumstances, I don't believe most of these people "own plenty of acreage" (not that this is relevent).
For me, the bottom line is that you even have to pay it. Suppose someone from an assessors office came to your door, and handed you a tax bill for your lawnmower, or car. Or guns.
You would, no doubt, object. After all, these are your personal possessions.
Yet no one objects to paying taxes on their house and land. Are these not your personal possessions as well? And if so, why do you pay a tax on it?
It’s good that in your locale, you can vote on it. But for me, you shouldn’t be having to pay it at all. As I said, it’s the State that owns all the land; thus, they can assess a yearly fee for your living on their land, though you, and others, at least have some mechanisms in place to prevent the State, or feudal lord, from acting in too usurious a manner.
It was George Washington that sent the army. The revolutionary war was thus less about unfair taxes than WHO collected the taxes.
Except they don't have that right, because of the rule of law. If you don't like the law, advocate to change it. Do you also believe in the Living, Breathing Constitution?
What's going on here is someone doesn't like messy countryside.
You do realize that Los Angeles County, except for a very small part, is fundamentally desert country. Unless water is pumped in from elsewhere it's just nasty, dirty, dusty, and no one can live there.
This part of the county is nasty, dirty, dusty, and there are some people who can live there ~ because they bring their own!
It's just part of the ambience folks expect in California but, like Marie Callendar's, they're ruining it ~ just utterly destroying anything that makes it worth going there to see, eat or visit.
Next thing you know they'll be banning fish tacos due to mercury content.
About 3 blocks East of Little Korea is Meth Central for LA County ~ and it’s not the Koreans doing it.
Please refresh my memory - I heard something about Agenda 21 on the radio the other day, but, I can't remember what it was about. Thanks.
