Newt Gingrich Had Second Line of Credit at Tiffany's (Stop the presses!)
The Washington Post ^ | Tuesday, June 20, 2011 | Chris Cillizza

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich had a second line of credit at the high-end jewelry store Tiffany’s for as much as $1 million dollars, his presidential campaign acknowledged Tuesday.

Joe DeSantis, a spokesman for Gingrich, said that the candidate’s personal financial disclosure filing, which is due within 30 days of his formal entrance into the presidential race, will “show that the Gingriches had a $500,000 to $1 million line of credit at Tiffany’s, that it has a zero balance, and it has been closed.”

DeSantis added that all debts to Tiffany’s had been paid in full. He offered no details about when the second line of credit was taken out, what it was used for or when it was closed.

When will the media investigate Michelle Obama's high dollar fashion/travel costs? If Callista Gingrich's high dollar jewelry is an issue then so should Michelle Obama's spendthrift ways be an issue.

Callista must have something going on to have Newt wrapped as tightly as she does.

You know, if there’s ever been any claim that Gingrich actually used this line of credit, I’ve yet to see it. My bank gave me a six figure line of credit years ago and I’ve never used a penny of it. It may be a fairly standard business practice of Tiffany’s to give someone of Newt’s wealth and status a huge line of credit. That doesn’t mean that he necessarily ever used much, if any, of it. Not that it would be any of my business anyway. But the media is determined to give every GOP candidate (and potential, but undeclared, candidates) a public colonoscopy. For that reason alone, I’m glad to read in your post that Newt has a zero balance on that line of credit.

I know my question will beget the question "By who?"; but honestly, when is the MEDIA going to be investigated for abject nightly lies? I'm not talking Buckhead nailing Dan Rather (nice job Buckhead; still a legend); I'm talking "talking points" by both major political parties. "Spin" is the new speech for lies.

/rant off...thanks for the post kristinn.

I’m not a Newt suporter, but this nonsense is ridiculous.

They don’t want to know anything about Obama and his democrats, but anyone else must be an open book.

I am no fan of Newt's but I fail to see why this even matters.

My wife buys a lot of jewelry from Tiffany and we have an account with them (it's nowhere near a million bucks, but it's big enough), opening it was no different than opening an account at a department store. EVERY jewelry store will let someone with an account buy whatever they want with zero interest if paid within a certain amount of time. Other than the media's fixation with this it's a non-story.

HA!

So obie's LOC if $14 trillion, and he's tapped it out - No Problem. Newt's $1 million LOC has $1 million left and it's a scandal in the dinosaur press.

Go figure.

Come on you folks - it’s plain as day. Tiffany’s got tired of paying all of the middlemen between them and DeBeers, so they hired the Newtster to run diamonds out of Angola direct to them. One of Ronnie Mervis’s moles inside Tiffany’s found out about the 1M credit line into the Newtster, which was just for travel and walking around money in Angola and Namibia. In other words coffee money. Newt’s unsecured credit line for diamond buys is for USD 20M but that’s in a Cayman bank, not stateside. And the MSM still thinks it’s all about Callista’s taste for expensive rocks. You heard it here first.

I don’t care if the guy had a $5 million line of credit with Tiffany’s. As long as he paid it off out of his own money thats his business. Its supposed to be a free country. Besides just because you have a line of credit does not mean you have charged it up to the max. Or charged anything for that matter. Its irrelavant. I’m only interested in Newt’s ideas for getting rid of Barry and getting this country back on track.
