Attacks on Pawlenty show he’s a serious contender
The US Report ^ | June 20, 2011 | Kay Day

Posted on 06/20/2011 11:17:28 AM PDT by Crush

Some in the conservative and progressive camps have harped on former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty’s reluctance to attack former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s healthcare program to a point where the criticism is suspect. At least it’s suspect if you consider the treatment President Barack Obama is getting right now.

Libya? ObamaCare waivers? Setting a world record for federal spending while unemployment remains higher than the rosy picture painted during Obama’s presidential campaign? Green jobs and not the kind that pay off for the US economy? Skyrocketing electricity and food bills? Foreign policy run amok? Regulatory hell? You could fill a notebook with disasters and Democrats know it.

Pawlenty spoke at the Right Online Conference in Minneapolis on June 18, and judging by the applause, he was well-received.

Pawlenty singled out two issues as “paramount”—getting our financial house in order and getting prosperity restored. He reminded the audience the US government takes in about $2.2 trillion in revenue but spends $3.7 trillion and Pawlenty sees the writing on the wall—“It’s the biggest slow motion crash in the history of American finance,” he said.

Pawlenty was very natural on the stage Saturday. He moved as he spoke. He didn’t use a teleprompter or notes. He spoke from the heart with an earnestness we don’t see in many presidential candidates. His heartland roots are key here—Pawlenty wasn’t born with a silver spoon.

As I researched GOP candidates, it seemed to me Pawlenty has a genuine affection for the American people and a connection that reminds me of President Ronald Reagan. If you watch videos of Reagan speaking, you’ll realize Reagan wasn’t a rock star orator. He didn’t loom from the stage like some hellfire and brimstone preacher. Instead, he spoke rationally and he spoke from the heart.

Pawlenty’s polling fell after...

“Attacks on Pawlenty show he’s a serious contender”

His weak-kneed refusal to confront Romney to his face shows that is really isn’t.

I’d take Pawlenty over Romney any day.

Mr. Pawlenty is what used to be called a Rockefeller Republican. East coast oriented, big spending, leftest, Romney-like fact fudger.

Tell him to go away...we don’t want any.

If you want to judge front-runnership by level of attack, Palin has them all eating her dust. :)

Ditto.

Remember too this is a Governor who spoke of his beliefs in Man Made Global Warming/Cap and Trade and the need for Government to require a mandate for health insurance.

I realize he now says he was wrong (since he's now campaigning for the Republican nomination), but it's difficult for me to view him as a Conservative. The back peddling on the Romneycare criticism hasn't helped to change my mind.

Well, that thinking would work for John Wilkes Booth, too, wouldn’t it?

MN is not on the east coast.

T-paw was born and raised in a middle class ,blue collar family.

He may be a RINO, but he’s no Mittens.

Pawlenty pumps ethanol
by Laura McCallum, Minnesota Public Radio
September 26, 2005

St. Paul, Minn. — Minnesota was the first state to require that all gasoline sold in the state contain 10-percent ethanol. Montana and Hawaii have passed similar laws, although they haven’t gone into effect yet. This year, Pawlenty pushed for doubling Minnesota’s ethanol mandate to 20-percent by the year 2013. He says the events of the last few months have made it clear that the nation must reduce its dependence on fossil
fuels.

Has there ever been a Republican who didn't talk about those issues? In contrast, Herman Cain is campaigning on radical tax reform (Fair Tax) which would quench the demand for free (i.e. paid for by someone else) goodies from the Fed. govt.

Incidentally, it's true that Reagan never ranted, raved, or gestured like a backwoods evangelist, although those tactics by the likes of Rick Perry have impressed some naive people here.

Arnold does not live on the east coast either...he’s still a rino. Pawlenty reminds me of William Scranton the Governor of Pennsylvania who tried to take Nixon out in the ‘68 primaries...with the help of Nelson Rockefeller.

Pawlenty is a kind of young Gerald Ford.

So what?
Do you complain when the Sunday sermon is always about Jesus?

The fact is, Pawlenty is right, those are the top issues and we will need a leader who is good on them. Pawlenty’s plan on this is good too. As is Cain’s.

Lamestream Media DNC-issued talking points:

'Attacks on Pawlenty show he’s a serious contender'

'Attacks on Palin show she’s not a serious contender and is unelectable'

Do exactly the opposite of what the LSM attempts to 'spin'.

Please do not question the talking points.

Please do not think about the talking points.

Please just repeat the talking points exactly as they have been given to you.

Thank you, have a nice day, and always remember, Sarah Palin isn’t smart enough to be your President.

Over and out.

I did, literally, Laugh Out Loud when I read that line.

It's like Charlie Rangel reminding you of Abraham Lincoln.

Tim Pawlenty has good credentials. He’s pro-life, pro-God, pro-gun, pro-family, pro-fiscal sanity, and anti-amnesty. He had a successful, conservative governorship in a state that’s tough on conservatives.

He might be accused of being too nice, too soft-spoken, and lacking in charisma.

Someone feel free to point out weak positions he’s supported. I’ve looked but not found anything yet.

Do you complain when the Sunday sermon is always about Jesus?

I'm sure they give lip service to Jesus in all the mainstream liberal churches and even in Rev. Wright's church. To paraphrase the Bible: "Lo, these Pubbies all give lip service to spending cuts and econ. growth, but their hearts are far from them." No one who fell for the AGW hoax and Cap & Trade should even be considered for the Republican nomination. That includes Pawlenty, Gingrich, et al. None of the true conservatives ever endorsed that junk.

Like other Republican presidential wannabes, Tim Pawlenty has shown himself to be a latent RINO. His unequivocal support for the Cap-and-Trade bill, now rejected by the candidate as 'a mistake' may be forgiven but the fact that Pawlenty's first instinct was to accept the 'global warming' myth and enthusiastically endorse Democrat attempts to use it to pass bad legislation is troubling to most conservatives. Frankly, Pawlenty seems like Mitt Romney without the slick look and plastic persona. He is very likely a nice guy but I'm afraid Tim is not the guy to represent conservatives in the presidential race and his bland persona does not help at all. If the MSM begin seriously promoting Pawlenty, we'll know he is definitely the wrong guy. That shouldn't take long.
