ST. PETERS Steve Randall strolled into the Starbucks at Mid Rivers Mall Drive and Mexico Road one recent Thursday evening wearing his Glock 21C pistol in a holster at his side.
Randall's imposing height and short haircut might have led some to believe he was a police officer. Perhaps they were too busy to notice the gun on his hip or the hips of two men who joined him.
For Randall, 39, of Overland, this was just another "open-carrying" gathering with friends, something he says he does for two reasons to provide personal protection and to let Missourians know they have the right to do so.

I live in a large city full of desperate people. There are multiple murders and robberies pretty much every weekend. It is absolutely unsafe to walk the streets after a certain hour and/or in certain places and this city is mild compared to St Louis and these chumps want to talk about a culture of fear and intimidation created by law abiding citizens openly carrying firearms? Who do they think they’re kidding?
The St Louis Post Disgrace has been anti-gun for at least 20 years.
In certain areas of St Louis, Missouri drug dealers station themselves 2 blocks apart night and day. With 4 or 5 young men standing at the curb you better have a dozen armed people with you or you will be seriously outgunned should you venture into these areas.
