I’ve been living on Long Island for most of my 60 years on this planet, and I can assure you that the police here are as useful as nipples on a bull. Forget 911. You can probably get them to respond to a problem quicker if you mail them a letter. What’s worse, is that they are the highest paid cops in the country, making well over six figures on average. For that kind of money, they should assume some risk. They don’t. They hardly ever respond to ANYTHING unless they have two or three sector cars join them. More times than not, they send a female cop, as the entire department seems to have become a social experiment of sorts. I’ve learned not to rely on them.
This is what I figured . I lived out on the east end before coming to Japan in 1985 . Cops were very good at stuff like harrassing kids for setting off fireworks , or giving tickets to people for not making a complete stop at a country stop sign on a lonely midnight road ...Must be a better word than useless ...LOL ...

Your whole post reminds me of similar things I've read about England, where it seems the police never arrive until they are absolutely sure that the "coast is clear".
We need a full house-cleaning of government at all levels in this country. And of course we're not going to get it.
But even the best PD couldn’t have gotten to this crime scene on time. The 911 call was almost certainly made after all the shots were fired.
This is clearly a case of: When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.
