So much of our English language comes from the French.
Especially military terms. How many do you all know? Please add yours.
For starters:
• skirmish < scaramouche
• ambush < ambouscade
• lieutenant
• colonel
• army < armee
• navy < navale
• “face the music” < the French military practice of making the condemned
face the drummers before execution
