What he doesn’t understand is that kids of religious families are those most likely to not be influenced by these kinds of ads. Generally, they’re more firmly grounded in their beliefs, and unlikely to be drawn to things they know are wrong.

I may have watched an episode about 9 years ago. It was
not bad at all; I remember thinking the programming was
suitable for really all ages. There were 2 teenage girl
singers, and 2 adult men dancers in that show. From what
I see on this thread, if this was American Idol. it has
gone way downhill.

girls were? It would make superlative dialogue... for

Not too long ago I read online a good discussion about
how TV degrades us, not by formal indoctrination but by
simply showing us what they want us to think the world looks
like. It was much better put than what I have been able
to say.
Whenever someone says that TV/media doesn’t try to influence behavior,
I ask them “why do people advertise, then?”
Just proves it’s a choice, no genetic predisposition about it.

Employers and the gov’t have been doing their part quite well. So well in fact, that folks can be fired for not agreeing with the “company” position, either at work or home.

Get this. If you are a promoter of Gay Sex, you can go into any public school in MA and speak to children of any age and NOT have to undergo a CORI (Criminal Background) Check. We’ve been letting our kids watch MacGyver episodes on Netflix which they really like. While I think MacGyver was messed up with his position on guns, I don’t have to worry about our kids taking anybody else’s position on guns. They’ve shot the real thing and want more.
A guy who can make a bomb out of bubble gum and dental floss is always entertaining.
I’ve been hooked on Quantum Leap and Monk. And my son finds MST3k to be amusing. The younger one likes Rocky and Bullwinkle, which is fine by me.
Yesterday the kids had a MacGyver marathon. Now I'm thinking... what else is out there that I've forgotten about.
Fox TV is the devil.
QL and Monk have some episodes/subject matter that I don’t think my 9 year old is quite ready for, but my 13 year old is ok. MST3k is hit or miss; some of the episodes just stink, but others...tears from laughing. Sliders is another sci-fi kind of show I think my son would like. I liked X-Files, but not really kid-friendly. We have the Muppet Show on DVD, a few seasons anyway — one of my little one’s favorites (I’m partial to Pigs in Space).
