MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama's governor on Thursday signed a tough new illegal immigration crackdown that contains provisions requiring public schools to determine students' immigration status and making it a crime to knowingly give an illegal immigrant a ride.

The bill also allows police to arrest anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant if they're stopped for any other reason. Alabama employers also are now required to use a federal system called E-Verify to determine if new workers are in the country legally.

The question remains: Will the steady drip, drip, drip of state’s laws be enough to stem the flood?

If they can’t live and work here, why be here? Penalties for Americans employing them need to be so prohibitively high as to discourage anybody from so much as thinking about it.

Big wheels keep on turning
Carry me home to see my kin
Singing songs about the Southland
I miss Alabamy once again
And I think its a sin, yes

Well I heard mister Young sing about her
Well, I heard ole Neil put her down
Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A Southern man don’t need him around anyhow

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I’m coming home to you

In Birmingham they love the governor
Now we all did what we could do
Now Watergate does not bother me
Does your conscience bother you?
Tell the truth

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I’m coming home to you
Here I come Alabama

Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
And they’ve been known to pick a song or two
Lord they get me off so much
They pick me up when I’m feeling blue
Now how about you?

Sweet home Alabama
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Alabama
Lord, I’m coming home to you

Sweet home Alabama
Oh sweet home baby
Where the skies are so blue
And the governor’s true
Sweet Home Alabama
Lordy
Lord, I’m coming home to you
Yea, yea Montgomery’s got the answer

I agree. I think there also needs to be a plan for sending the overwhelming majority of them back to wherever they came from.

They will all flee into blue states that have not passed these laws and will crash the system Cloward-Piven style.
The resulting contrast in prosperity of the states will finally force a solution.

“If they can’t live and work here, why be here?”

Free Food
Free school
Free house
Free medical

Same reason they come here.

Hopefully, Texas Governor Rick Perry has noticed this development.... but more than likely he’s at some wine and
cheese reception shmoozing with his cheap labor loving, big bidness political friends.

No free school in Alabama. Put all the other things out of their reach, too. No housing, no medicaid, no food stamps.

I love my state! And Gov. Bentley basically told Holder and Justice to ‘BRING IT ON’ when he signed the bill this morning.

Let them go at their own cost just as they self-deported from Oklahoma to other states.

Rick Perry has not demanded that our legislature produce an anti-illegal immigration bill during either the 2011 regular, or the special legislative session, even though he has the power to do that, as Governor.

Several very good anti-illegal immigration bills were intentionally prevented from reaching the floor of the House for debate by Speaker Joe Strauss and his minions in the calendar committee.

None of this has gone on without Rick Perry's knowledge and express approval. The truth about him needs to be spread far and wide. He is NOT the conservative leader that many people think he is.

I suggest first time caught illegally in the US, 10 years, federal prison in Northern Alaska. Second Offense, life in prison doing hard labor.

Sharing a cell with their employer. The employers of illegals are the root cause of the problem.

If Texas ever hires a real governor, who REALLY wants to roll back fed power then it will be game on.

Maybe instead of running for President, Ron Paul should just run for Governor of Texas. A little too old now...but then his foreign policy positions wouldn’t be a lightening rod because it really wouldn’t matter as a Gov., and it would be all about nullification and economic matters.

He talks like a conservative during election cycles, but acts like a statist day to day.
