Just one question for each Republican presidential candidate
St. Petersburg Times ^ | June 6, 2011 | David M. Shribman, Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Posted on 06/06/2011 5:50:38 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

....if I had a chance to pose just one, here's the one I'd put to some of the major Republican contenders:

Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the House: ........Why do Republican officeholders shy away from you in such numbers and with such fervor, and....do you combine a second-class personality with a first-class intellect?

Mitt Romney, former governor of Massachusetts:.....So: Do you compete in Iowa?

Tim Pawlenty, former governor of Minnesota:......Did your actions as House majority leader and then as governor ease or exacerbate the current fiscal crisis in Minnesota?

Jon M. Huntsman Jr., former governor of Utah:.....How could you serve a president as ambassador to perhaps the most important nation on Earth and then run against him for president?

Rick Perry, governor of Texas:...how does a man who believes that the federal government's role should be minimized and that the states' roles should be maximized explain why he wants to step away from the governor's office in Austin — where there are no term limits — and move into the Oval Office in Washington?

Rick Santorum, former senator from Pennsylvania, and Michele Bachmann, House member from Minnesota.......Mr. Santorum, having lost your re-election bid in 2006 by 18 percentage points and you, Ms. Bachmann, having run behind the GOP presidential candidate in every county in your district in 2008, how can you expect to run credible elections nationwide?

Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska:...Why did you resign a position of political leadership with barely any notice and no apparent reason, and if it was to influence the national debate, how have you done so?

Ron Paul, House member from Texas.....Are you enhancing or diminishing your views by making them the basis of a presidential campaign, and do you risk becoming something of a Harold Stassen?

The writer has a descriptive lead-in for each candidate before he poses a question.

My only question if I were put to the task in front of each and every candidate would be what is their stand on Islam in America.

Do you believe Islam and Sharia laws should be allowed in America? And what will you do about what has infiltrated our government so far?

To me THAT is all I need to support our future leaders.

I believe Islam should be given a “Do Not Disturb” sign notice. They are NOT welcome in America.

I have one question and one question only for all of the candidates:

Under the SCOTUS decisions in 2008 in DC v. Heller and in 2010 in McDonald v. Chicago, the 2nd Amendment was found to be a Fundamental Right of the People. Given these decisions, if elected, will you work to repeal the infringing laws on the books now such as the machine gun ban, sporting purpose clause, and others and will you uphold the 2nd Amendment by not passing any laws that place a burden, restriction or requirement on law abiding gun owners? Please answer with a yes or no.

The question to Gov. Palin is so irritating. She explained very clearly why she resigned her governors positions.

I don’t care about why she resigned as Governor, I don’t have blinders on about that issue.

Because I live in Wasilla, AK and she did the right thing.

Otherwise my taxes would have been tapped to fight against an overwhelming force from outside that had an assigned mission to destroy her.

Fortunately Sarah Palin is still around and fighting back against them, and she will do so with ALL of my support, because I simply refuse to believe any of the propaganda that was created as to why she resigned.

Most of the questions have nothing to do with how the person would do as President. These are simply questions trying to put folks on the spot. This media guy will not support any of these candidates under any circumstances, so what he wants to hear answered is irrelevant because he has an agenda that has nothing to do with determining fitness for office.

Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska:...Why did you resign a position of political leadership with barely any notice and no apparent reason, and if it was to influence the national debate, how have you done so?

Didn't she already answer this? Many times? Apparently, the writer does not believe the answer given. I submit this is a pointless exercise because the writer would simply reject answers to any of the questions posed in the article.

Indeed she did. When she stopped letting them draw and quarter her, the Left switched to the other tack of calling her a quitter, and the GOP establishment appears to be sitting on their hands about defending her on this slam.

Someone has to be extremely dense or have PDS to not comprehend why Sarah left the Alaska governor’s office in mid term.

It was an act of courage, as was deciding to bear a Down’s child.

Actually, I’d challenge each candidate to submit a one page resume for the job of President.

So the question becomes do we give them a job description or do we let them submit the resume based on what they think are the highest priorities of the job and how they qualify to meet those priorities.

How about asking them each a question that would force them to declare their real allegiance—to government, or to CONSTITUTIONAL government? For example...

1) What would you do to permanently prevent situations like that which happened to the plaintiff in Kelo v. New London?

2) Where do you stand in the debate over Gonzales v. Reich, with the majority or minority?

3) Can the federal government force people to buy health insurance, and was Judge Vinson wrong about the Obamacare severability clause?

If they pretend they don’t know any of those cases, they don’t belong in public office.
If they don’t have an answer ready, they don’t belong in public office.
If they stand with the majority in the first two cases, or answer in the positive to either issue posed in the last question, they don’t belong in public office.

Of course, the Slimes doesn’t care if they belong to the big government party, as they are not at all interested in limiting big government. So the questions they pose are fluffy non-issue questions, bent on making 2012 about flag burning and National Enquirer b.s. Palin’s is a particularly softball one, all about making her the front runner, because the press loves having something be sexy about politics for once, no matter how much they profess to hate her.

Interesting premise. There is so much to fix but it really boils down to their core beliefs, imho.

Reagan picked three things to campaign on. I think you can give the electorate a good idea of how you will govern in that fashion.

“The question to Gov. Palin is so irritating. She explained very clearly why she resigned her governors positions.”

C’mon, that question couldn’t be more intended to give her a platform. It starts with an irritant but then gives her a chance to talk about everything she’s done since. Palin’s question is very unlike the Bachman/Santorum/Paul “questions,” which are purely denigrating and designed to continue the personality-based political scene instead of making it about their political stands. Might as well ask them, “Since you’re behind in the polls, could you be more useless?”

Pawlenty - Were you against regulating greenhouse gases before you were for it, now that you are against it?

Palin - If Katie Couric were sitting here right now and you had 30 seconds, what would you say to her?

Newt - What are the three qualities that would be most important to you in a fourth wife?

Santorum - Just how in the hell did you, as an incumbent, get beaten by a walking mannequin like Bob Casey by such a wide margin?

Romney - Why do you suppose that wait times to see a doctor in Massachusetts are now longer than those in Quebec?

Perry - In 500 words or less, explain why it is Conservative to issue an Executive Order mandating that all women between 13-21 in your state be immunized with Gardisil.

Paul - Any truth to the rumor that if elected Alex Jones would be your choice for White House Press Secretary?

Huntsman - Just who in the heck are you again?

Yes! One question for the author: Re: the Palin question, do you have wax in your ears or do you just choose to remain deaf.
