Experts back Sarah Palin’s historical account: You betcha she was right!
The Boston Herald ^ | June 6, 2011 | Chris Cassidy

Sarah Palin yesterday insisted her claim at the Old North Church last week that Paul Revere “warned the British” during his famed 1775 ride — remarks that Democrats and the media roundly ridiculed — is actually historically accurate. And local historians are backing her up.

Palin prompted howls of partisan derision when she said on Boston’s Freedom Trail that Revere “warned the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free.”

Palin insisted yesterday on Fox News Sunday she was right: “Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there. That, hey, you’re not going to succeed. You’re not going to take American arms.”

In fact, Revere’s own account of the ride in a 1798 letter seems to back up Palin’s claim. Revere describes how after his capture by British officers, he warned them “there would be five hundred Americans there in a short time for I had alarmed the Country all the way up.”

Boston University history professor Brendan McConville said, “Basically when Paul Revere was stopped by the British, he did say to them, ‘Look, there is a mobilization going on that you’ll be confronting,’ and the British are aware as they’re marching down the countryside, they hear church bells ringing — she was right about that — and warning shots being fired. That’s accurate.”

Patrick Leehey of the Paul Revere House said Revere was probably bluffing his British captors, but reluctantly conceded that it could be construed as Revere warning the British.

“I suppose you could say that,” Leehey said. “But I don’t know if that’s really what Mrs. Palin was referring to.”

McConville said he also is not convinced that Palin’s remarks reflect scholarship.

“I would call her lucky in her comments,” McConville said.

Meanwhile, the state’s Democratic Party held a thin blue line on the issue, insisting on mocking Palin despite a brief historical review of the matter. State party chairman John Walsh wise-cracked that the region welcomes all tourists, even those with “an alternative view of history.”

“If you believe he was riding through the countryside sending text messages and Tweets to the British, still come to Boston,” he said. “There are a lot of things to do and see.”

But Cornell law professor William Jacobson, who asserted last week that Palin was correct, linking to Revere quotes on his conservative blog Legalinsurrection.com, said Palin’s critics are the ones in need of a history lesson. “It seems to be a historical fact that this happened,” he said. “A lot of the criticism is unfair and made by people who are themselves ignorant of history.”

"Ahhh, I see, if she gets it right, she’s lucky."

That was my thought as well. What a$$holes they are. I truly hate them.

This sizes up the media elite. They learned all their US history from America-hating Leftists. It reminds me of the APUSH tests, ignorance teaching the ignorant.

They’re ignoramuses of the first order.

"If it’s His desire she run...no man can stop this...they will only get in the way and be mowed down in the process. And since He does install leadership....well... time will surely tell if He’s going to give this nation another chance to do it right."

That is my thinking as well. If He forgives us, He will give us another chance....and that chance is Sarah, and only Sarah, our modern day Esther.

If it's not Sarah, I take it that He has NOT forgiven us. If true, that means "the sleeping giant slept far too long".

“After Percy had left the city, Gage directed two ammunition wagons guarded by one officer and thirteen men to follow. This convoy was intercepted by a small party of older, former militiamen, still on the “alarm list” who could not join their militia companies because they were well over 60. These men rose up in ambush and demanded the surrender of the wagons, but the regulars ignored them and drove their horses on. The old men opened fire, shot the lead horses, killed two sergeants, and wounded the officer. The survivors ran, and six of them threw their weapons into a pond before they surrendered.”

Don't mess with old men. They'll just kill you.

Thanks for the history lesson. There is so much of this type of story that never made it into a book or past one or two succeeding generations. More unsung American patriots.

Definition:

warning: alert someone to a potential danger

warning: a threat of upcoming negative circumstances.

Both are legitimate usages of the word.

I warned my neighbor of the approaching tornado.

Kennedy warned Russia of the consequences.

These libs just cannot accept the fact that Palin is once intelligent cookie. It isn’t luck, it’s innate intelligence, and wisdom.

You sure spout a lot of words -

And yet - in not one case - did you present where she was facually inaccurate.

You also did not indicate what personal research you have done on the topic.

I won’t be responding to more of your inane posts - you have demonstrated you have no case - just blather. Go troll somwewhere else.

An academic question is in order...

How many United States citizens were warned by Paul Revere???

Yes - she fumbled it.
What it sounded to me like - was she studied up on the history books - but then struggled to get the words out.

I knew exactly what she was talking about - but she forgot - the media were just looking for dirt. For Obama - they would send us a picture of him eating ice cream.

it was not national news worthy - especially not given the media’s errors in reporting. We have a President who can’t string a prepared statement together without a teleprompter - looks like she was walkign and talking and doing soemthing else at the same time.

Cheap shot on multiple counts.

Good one. I like to point out it was a civil war.

If she really wanted to get the leftists panties in a knot - she could have pointed out that Revere and Dawes really just went to places like Pastor’s houses - the churches did much of the communicating.

Separation of Church and State - my ass.

I have no doubt the people of our nation are in a bad place in regard to how God sees us. We have crossed pretty much all the lines He’s given which protect us. Our country is being invaded just as happened in the old testament when the people turned away from God, and it’s coming from every direction as well as within the churches and our governing powers. Sad state of affairs in every respect...

If Sarah does run the opposition will be more than fierce, the enemy of God does not let go of what he’s claimed easily....and he has a firm hold on this country now. If Sarah does not run, then I can accept that as well and will not hold anything against her if she declines. I am praying she will run, but only if it is what God wants. He knows the timing of all things and the way the world is shaping up ...we may have just passed the time of our influence. Time indeed, will tell. We can only pray it is not too late...

When I pray to God, I pray that He forces her to run, lol. I ask for forgiveness for our country and apologize for my slumber.

I just pray it’s not too late. barry stating Israel should go back to it’s 1967 borders DOES NOT bid well for us.

We are at the lowest point of our history as a nation. I’m just praying for one more chance.

McCarthy was right all along...the commies were infiltrating our government and hollyweird. He was persecuted for pulling a “Paul Revere”.

How right he was.

To counter the Palin bashers, ask them the nationality of the patriots on the Lexington Green!
