Modern-day abolitionists seek an end to abortion
Red Dirt Report ^ | June 5, 2011 | Andrew W. Griffin

NORMAN, Okla. – Taking a cue from the brave abolitionists of the 19th century – William Wilberforce, Elijah P. Lovejoy, even ol’ John Brown of Harper’s Ferry fame – a new movement is taking root right here in Oklahoma and their issue is not slavery, of course, but the controversial issue of abortion.

And the thoughtful and informed members of the Norman-based Abolitionist Society of Oklahoma, now only two months old, is looking to eventually abolish abortion.

It might seem like an impossible task. But talking to co-founder Russell Hunter this past Saturday, the group, made up largely of young people, seems intent on spreading the word about their ultimate goal – total abolition of human abortion and ending the objectification of women.

“This is the first (abortion abolitionist society) that we know of,” Hunter said. “There is one group that started in Tahlequah and we are visible on Twitter and Facebook and hear from people in Texas and New York and other places.

Talking to Hunter and some of his abolitionist colleagues – Toby Harmon and Paul Zimmerman – at their first-ever “Yard Sale for Heroic Women,” held in a lot belonging to the Berry Road Baptist Church, Hunter tells Red Dirt Report that the money collected from sales at the yard sale will go towards a young woman who nearly had an abortion but opted to keep her baby instead.

I hope they’re successful in ending abortion.

Abortion IS the moral issue of our age, just as slavery was the moral issue of the 19th Century.

I firmly believe abortions will become illegal again but it is going to take a constitutional amendment to do so.

Slavery, abortion, Socialism, are all about certain people have power over other people that they shouldn’t have.

I don’t think the al Qaeda or the Taliban are as much concerned with atheisim as much as they are concerned with ‘competing’ religions. Why or how (if it’s true) can that be (honest question)?

Abortion will bring the judgment of God on our Nation unless it is eradicated.

A pro-life president, a pro-life majority in both the House and the Senate.
An end to legal infanticide in America.
THEN the healing can begin.

On rethink.. I mis-stated my position..due to faulty reading.

Abolitionists and the prolife people are definitely on the same page.

Only if the WH is Pro-Lifer and the majority of both houses are too, not RINOS.

And call it what it truly is GENOCIDE. In 2006 the number of murdered unborn babies was 47 Million. That does not even include the ones done away with via D & C so ins would cover the cost.

The old saw ‘it’s to save the life of the mother’ is baloney. Especially in a late term, a C section accomplishes the same thing. I’ve delivered via C section for that reason, only difference is I wanted my son. They don’t want their babies, and don’t want any one else to have the baby either.

Since 1973 we have really only had one truly pro-life president (Reagan). There are plenty of politicians who claim to be pro-life while pandering for votes, but when you look at their records you will find that very few are actually pro-life.

And call it what it truly is GENOCIDE. In 2006 the number of murdered unborn babies was 47 Million. That does not even include the ones done away with via D & C so ins would cover the cost.

The current number is at least 53 million and that doesn't include D&Cs or chemical abortions with RU-486.

The old saw ‘it’s to save the life of the mother’ is baloney. Especially in a late term, a C section accomplishes the same thing. I’ve delivered via C section for that reason, only difference is I wanted my son. They don’t want their babies, and don’t want any one else to have the baby either.

With modern surgical procedures, the number of times an abortion of an viable baby will actually save a woman's life is almost nil; ectopic pregnancies do occur, but in many cases the fetus is dead before the problem is diagnosed. NOBODY opposes NECESSARY procedures that WILL SAVE a mother's life while tragically killing the baby in the process, but these are very rare.

The most tragic cases are when women are diagnosed with cancer and abortion is necessary to begin treatment as soon as possible. Even with these cases, I regularly see stories about women who sacrificed their own lives so their baby could live.

I knew you would have the current figures. And I quite agree with what you state on the issue. We had control of all 3 branches for 2 years, and not a blessed thing was done to make this the rare procedure it should be.

There are to many forms of birth control available that we don’t need this as a form of birth control. We have long term like implants, the pill, or permanent...i.e. tube tying.

Which was my choice following the second C section, did it all in the 1 procedure.

You do hear of many stories of women choosing to sacrifice their lives for their unborn’s. And some times God fools the medical profession and both survive.

Until we Effect the abolition of Abortion, we ought to work har to Affect the number of abortions occuring in our communities. If we are not doing that, our votes are empty.

We must also be wary of being manipulated by politically pro-life individuals seeking political power. I don’t want to vote for a pro-lifer running for president. I want to vote for an out and out Abolitionist of Abortion.

We should not rest until we have effected its abolition.

I agree with that, which is why I crossed off the list as they announced Romney, Pawlenty, Newt, and Huck. Trump is a clown wanting attention. His show has gone to his head.

This is a one step at a time battle, just as getting the right to vote was. You have to change people’s thinking. Which is why I stopped using the benign PC word abortion.

And use the true word GENOCIDE. 53+ Million is GENOCIDE by any standar of the word. It may be done 1 at a time, many times a day per 50 states and territories. But it all mounts up to millions before long.

Divide the known 53 million by 38 years. R v W was settled in 1973.
