Federal gunrunners fueling violence in Mexico
San Francisco Examiner - Opinion ^ | June 5, 2011 | Ron Arnold

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives sting operation named Project Gunrunner passed so many guns to border-crossing smugglers as bait to snag high-level Mexican drug cartel leaders — instead of intercepting them as intended — that one was used to murder U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December.

Project Gunrunner had been whitewashed by a 152-page Justice Department Inspector General Review in November, before the Terry murder. But when bloggers including National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea publicly exposed Project Gunrunner and its successor, Operation Fast and Furious, it delivered swift results.

Immediately, half a dozen veteran agents based in Phoenix came forward and revealed that the bureau had indeed directed the sale of hundreds of high-powered rifles and handguns to suspects — despite the objections of legitimate gun shop owners.

Two members of Congress with watchdog reputations — Iowa Republican Sen. Charles Grassley, ranking minority member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee — were appalled at the whistleblower evidence they received and haven’t let go of the issue.

THIS is the scandal that should be front and center because it reveals everything we know and despise about this administration in every area of their governance.

“THIS is the scandal that should be front and center because it reveals everything we know and despise about this administration in every area of their governance.”

But Charlie Sheen’s latest antics is a major news priority. How could you suggest this is a more important news item? /s

But yet, what else do you expect from the intentionally misleading and mis-direction we get from the MSM—they’re just doing the job of being the government’s propaganda machine. What they’re paid to do.

“instead of intercepting them as intended “

One is assuming, then, that they really intended to ‘intercept’ those weapons.

No one ever explains how that would happen. And where.

Besides, it’s dangerous. Those guys have guns.

Most of the media—at least, those who actually mention the scandal at all—seem to ignore the REAL agenda at play in Gunrunner. Without the testimony of whistle blower John Dodson, the truth about Project Gunrunner and Fast and Furious would be quite unknown. A border agent would have been killed by a Mexican drug runner with a rifle sold in the US! PERIOD!!! And the result?? NEW anti-gun legislation would have been MANDATED and more taxpayer money would be pouring into Mexico!

So let me see if I understand this: the BATF has bought guns from U.S. gun shops along the Mexican border, sent them to Mexico for Mexican drug dealers to use to kill one another AND so they (the feds) can then say "See?!?! -- all these American guns are being used to kill the poor Mexicans" thereby justifing their (the feds') existence AND in order to put the screws to every law-abiding gun owner in the U.S. so they can ultimately ban all guns. And everyone knows this, Congress included, and there's nothing anyone is going to do about it.

Is that about right?

I’m so glad you said that.

I’ve been reading these gun threads and feeling that everyone else but me knows just how the feds are going to pinpoint the drug cartels. And WHAT the feds will do to capture the cartels. Does anybody know what the plan was?
