According to the unemployment data released this morning, the economy added only 54,000 jobs, pushing the unemployment rate up to 9.1 percent. However, this report from MarketWatch suggests data is much worse than that:
McDonalds ran a big hiring day on April 19 after the Labor Departments April survey for the payrolls report was conducted in which 62,000 jobs were added. Thats not a net number, of course, and seasonal adjustment will reduce the Hamburglar impact on payrolls. (In simpler terms restaurants always staff up for the summer; the Labor Department makes allowance for this effect.) Morgan Stanley estimates McDonalds hiring will boost the overall number by 25,000 to 30,000. The Labor Department wont detail an exact McDonalds figure they wont identify any company they survey but there will be data in the report to give a rough estimate.
If Morgan Stanley is correct, about half of last month's job growth came from the venerable fast-food chain. That is hardly the sign of a healthy economy.
Was this hiring binge payback??
And I remember the epithet “MacJobs” from the dems a few years back.
Should have typed: McJobs..
I wouldn’t eat at mickeys if it were free.
Something tells me we won’t be hearing the “McJobs” meme that the lefties constantly blurted before Maobama took office.
Looks like moochelle may have to change her new food plate.....
She may have to add a bic mac to the plate...
I need to move home.
Son didn't you vote for the Obama fellow?
Me zero too, which ups your consumed mickey burger average to what, a few million?
You’re welcome.
Once I threw down a half eaten big mac, my German Shepherd walked over, sniffed it, and walked away.
Enjoy!
“And I remember the epithet MacJobs from the dems a few years back.”
You’re right; now they’re going to pretend these are viable careers for adults...
On a positive note, McDonald’s is the best, and the Big Mac is the pinnacle of Western civilization. In my younger days I actually went on a long drive with my then-girlfriend along the Hudson River from NJ up into NY; we had breakfast in a McDonalds on Route 17 North in NJ, lunch at a McDonalds in Newburgh, NY, and rounded out the day with dinner at the McDonalds in Sugerties, NY. Needless to say, I married that girl...
Do you still have the Ronald McDonald outfit or did the little woman make you give that up after the vows? LOL!!
If I had one, I’d hang on to it, though now that I’m older the whole idea of Ronald is a little creepy...
: )
Now that I’m older I find it harder to hold down fast food; it’s a shame. When I do get it, I’m shocked at how Mexican the menu is (not just the bilingual stuff, but the actual menu items).
And yet the Democrats are always trying to regulate McD’s and other fast food restaurants out of business.
That's a lot of burgers to flip for a country stuck in the middle of Michelle's quest for perfect health, what gives?
Do you have any doubt? The bulk of new hires would be Obama voters.
LOL. I think even my neighbor's golden retriever might turn that down, and she was a hunting dog.....as in hunting chimpmunks to eat herself.
I took a recent road trip with long hours on the road in 3 states and a few visits to McDonalds.
There were far too many employees working and getting in each others way each time.
Is this just a trial period and maybe looking for new and better staff? Then let the rest go?
