Algeria on Wednesday called for an inclusive dialogue in Libya with the participation of all Libyan parties to reach a peaceful settlement of the crisis.
Speaking at a press conference in the capital Algiers, Abdelkader Messahel, Algerian Delegate Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs, said his country is in contact with all concerned parties in Libya, and aims to help end the crisis in the neighboring country in a peaceful way.
Messahel said Algeria supports the African Union (AU) roadmap for solving the conflict, which calls for political dialogue between different parties in Libya, necessary political reforms, and more effective measures to protect civilians.
Also on Wednesday, visiting Commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) General Carter Ham told a press conference at the U.S. embassy in Algiers that he is "encouraged to note the meetings that have occurred between Algeria, Mauritania, Mali and Niger" that aimed to control the proliferation of weapons from Libya to other places in the Sahel region.
Ham said Washington has real concerns about the spread of weapons, a result of the prolonged Libyan crisis, and worries that some might end up in the hands of terrorists.
To control the spread of weapons will require the cooperative efforts of all involved, Ham said. "The United States is working with each of these countries to find ways in which U.S. support might be helpful," he added.
Ham also denied Wednesday that he had received official reports about the existence of mercenaries sent by Algeria in Libya.
Libya's rebels have accused Algeria of continuing to support Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his government, claiming to have captured Algerian "mercenaries" on the battlefield, while the charges are strongly denied by Algeria.

[gasp!] You mean that Libya and its neighbors are going to figure out how to make peace without the UN or zer0 dipping their wieners (or bombs) in the soup?
I’m stuned.
Old alliances are shaking out — Algeria has troops on the ground in Libya, as does Chad, and other African nations, and we’re seeing the last stand against an al-Qaeda takeover. BRICS was for the intervention before it was against it. Basically, Zero is trying to appear to be doing 50s-style brinkmanship, and is really just pushing the world into world war.
You have to hand it to zer0 for being consistent. He’s consistently wrong about everything.
