French Socialists May Expel Member Speaking Out on Strauss-Kahn
The New York Times ^ | June 1, 2011 | MAÏA de la BAUME

Nine years ago, Anne Mansouret dissuaded her daughter from filing a legal complaint for attempted rape against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, a prominent member of the Socialist Party in France and the former husband of one of her best friends.

But now she is speaking out about what happened and what other Socialist leaders knew. And some Socialists — deeply embarrassed by the allegations against the wealthy man who was likely to be their presidential candidate next year — have called for her expulsion from the party.

In a series of interviews, Mrs. Mansouret — by turns defensive, emotional, argumentative and uncompromising — said she did it to protect her daughter, Tristane Banon, now 31, and the party itself.

Ms. Banon, a journalist and novelist, asserts that Mr. Strauss-Kahn, who is facing criminal charges in New York of attempted rape of a hotel housekeeper, tried to rape her during an interview in an empty apartment in 2002 — grabbing her arm, pulling off her bra, trying to unzip her jeans, fighting with her on the floor and ignoring her cries of “no.” She described him as “a chimpanzee in rut.”

Party leaders knew of her daughter’s experience with Mr. Strauss-Kahn, Mrs. Mansouret said, but chose to ignore it. And she herself felt stymied, in part, because Mr. Strauss-Kahn’s second wife, Brigitte Guillemette, was one of her best friends and the godmother of Ms. Banon.

“Many people knew the story, but didn’t want to talk about it,” Mrs. Mansouret said.

With the DSK affair & the pedophile sex party scandal emerging in France, the Socialists are running for cover. Instead of denouncing these criminals and degenerates, they are protecting them.
With an almost assured victory against Sarko in 2012, they have dropped the ball, and, IMHO, cannot get back in the game.
Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

I’ll keep you all informed  about the DSK case in detail, as well as covering other French political and cultural events.
NEXT COURT APPEARANCE IS JUNE 6.

Well they sure indicate by their actions they think he’s guilty...at the very least the party cannot afford to wait it out.

You said it well...”snatched out of the jaws”

“In the book, published in 2003, she interviewed several well-known men about errors they had made in their careers. Mr. Strauss-Kahn spoke of his involvement in a major political and financial scandal in 1998, although he was cleared of charges.”

Apparently, he didn’t see attempted rape/sexual assault as a possible error.

Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!

Have to hope there is some level of behavior below what the voters can tolerate.

Is it really “news” that the truth is anathema to Socialists?

That's Socialism at it's very core. It requires as one of it's central tenets the rejection of truth. Let that fact roll around in your head for a bit.

Thanks for the ping, Cincinna. My mom was a housekeeper in a large hotel chain at one time. If any sleazebag whould have raped her or attempted to rape her...I would have personally spent the rest of my life hunting down and killing the cretin, or making his life a living hell...ESPECIALLY a POS like DSK.

Are there any men left, anywhere?

Heh, not sure how this will play in French politics overall as there are very different views in France over things such as this as there are in US politics.

Since l’Affaire DSK happened, things in France have started to change. Women have started to speak out, and the era of open dirty little secrets of men in power covered up at the highest level is starting to end.
Sarko and the Right have played this smart, and gotten out of the way of the Socialist Party train wreck.
