"I thought I was definitely going to die so I thought I'd kill as many of them as I could first." I like this guy's attitude!

Their reputation is well-deserved, no doubt...just like that other group of warriors you and I remember.

I must confess I had to go to the dictionary for that one.
You're right. You're absolutely right.

Good job, and well deserved medal for one of the world’s finest soldiers......
US Marine Dan Daley, singlehandily defending the Peking Legation Wall at the top of a staircase during the Boxer Rebellion, defeated 200 (killed 62+) Boxers in hand to hand combat. He was awarded his first MOH, for this action. Captain John (Handsome Jack) Meyers Commanding. (played by Charleston Heston in the movie 55 days at Peking.)
Fifteen years later he received his second MOH award for actions in Haiti. Dan Also received our Nations second highest award, the Navy Cross, during the First World War.
“Come on you SOBs....follow me...do you want to live forever?”
And yes, we still make ‘em like this to this very day!

Fortunately, the dictionary's just a click away.
(I went to check the spelling!)
The Gurkhas are men with whom you REALLY do not want to mess. One of the British Empire's secret weapons, along with the Highland Scots . . . another mountain tribe.

Really great photos from WWI and WWII here:
WWI. George Macdonald Fraser mentioned the Gurkhas' affinity for the bagpipes. Another link with the Highlanders.
WWII.
Some of these Gurkha regiments were in my dad's sector. I'll have to ask him if he ran up against any of them.
