Christie pulling N.J. out of greenhouse gas pact

By Maya Rao

INQUIRER TRENTON BUREAU

TRENTON - Gov. Christie said today New Jersey will withdraw from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, a cap-and-trade agreement between 10 northeast states, by the end of the year.

The governor acknowledged that humans play a role in global warming but said the program does not address the problem.

"This program is not effective in reducing greenhouse gases and is unlikely to be in the future," said the governor, standing alongside Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin at a statehouse news conference.

The goal of the cap-and-trade initiative, the only one of its kind nationally, is for participating states to cap and reduce carbon dioxide emissions 10 percent by 2018, investing proceeds from emission auctions into clean energy. Power producers are required to pay for every ton of greenhouse gas they emit by buying credits at quarterly auctions.

New Jersey joined RGGI in 2008 under former Gov. Jon S. Corzine's administration.

Christie has repeatedly criticized New Jersey's participation in recent months, saying it makes the state less competitive for businesses. Pennsylvania is not part of the agreement.

"I'm concerned about the burden that it places on our businesses, making them less competitive with Pennsylvania, because our businesses have greater costs involved than in Pennsylvania," the governor said in March at a town hall in Nutley.

Republicans have two or three dozen very good possible candidates for president; Christie is one of them.

I guess that’s half a loaf.

Better yet would be to recognize that there isn’t anything within the power of humanity, short of a global conflagration, that would rise above the normal “noise” or variation of global climate change.

The problem here is that Christie is admitting the central premise of the AGW crowd.

“The governor acknowledged that humans play a role in global warming...”

Very Gingrich-y (or Graham-y, if you prefer) of him to acknowledge this AGW lie.

He still promotes the lie of AGW. Fail.

He has to mouth platitudes at the very least, just because he’s in NJ. Judge him by his actions.

Things like this make it sound like Christie is running. His poll numbers are starting to sag in NJ, and it sounds like that Newark governor would probably beat him in a reelection bid.

Christie is probably going to be the only guy that can effectively sell Ryan’s budget, maybe even better than Ryan himself. He’s not afraid to call a liar a liar, and Obama and his cronies are most certainly that. Ryan would surely be better at explaining the mechanics of his plan, but Christie would do a better job at debunking the propaganda. That’s where this battle is to be won.

I don’t think Christie is as RINO-ish as people think. NJ has a 700,000 registered democrat advantage. If he were to have come out like Jim Inhofe on Global Warming, Ken Cuccinelli on Obamacare and Charlton Heston on gun rights, he never would have won the election to take on the state’s budget crisis – the most pressing thing before them that he could affect in a meaningful way.

If we were to have a Christie/Rubio ticket, you might as well start booking your hotel accommodations for his inauguration.

If so, I’d still need a “none of the above” selection on my ballot.

The Newark mayor, not governor, has the same character flaw that McGreevey hid for so long.

Sorry, meant to say mayor. I’m not sure that would matter in NJ, unless he was doing something illegal.

>> Christie pulling N.J. out of greenhouse gas pact Christie has repeatedly criticized New Jersey's participation in recent months, saying it makes the state less competitive for businesses.

But...but... the Christie bashers here continue to insist he's "pro cap and trade", they wouldn't lie, right? Of course they've also insisted for months that's "pro-abortion", even after he's vocally spoken at pro-life rallies and shut down Planned Parenthood in NJ. And they still say he's a "gun grabber" after he pardoned a man wrongly convicted for weapons posession and has indicated a willingness to sign legislation that would loosen NJ's existing gun laws that were enacted BEFORE he was Governor. And somehow he's "pro-gay marriage" even though he's consistently promised to veto any type of gay marriage legislation and strongly promotes traditional marriage.

I guess we should pay no attention to what Christie actually does in office, because the "conservatives" who have spent months claiming he's a "social liberal" and a "Giuliani/Whitman/Schwartzenegger clone" and would be "no different from Corzine" are ALWAYS right.

Happy Days!

Note that this lawsuit was NOT about global climate change, anthropogenic global warming (AGW), or global warming.

It was originally a lawsuit over coal fired power plants polluting surface level water bodies including drinking supplies in the Northeast, and coal fired power plants polluting forests with acid rain in the Northeast.

You are confused, Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is a cap and trade system to prevent coal fired power generation water and flora destruction in the Northeast,

Christie is still supporting larger cap and trade AGW legislation in theory, unbelievably enough.

With NJ leaving the RGGI, the parallel cap and trade program , The New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers (NEG-ECP) Climate Change Action Plan 2001, will take the forefront, at least until the Canadians pull out now that the Conservatives are running federal Canada.

Never.

But if your only choice is to select who is going to screw you, why would you sign on? It may happen, but you don’t have to be part of the disaster.

But I may get lucky, as there are a couple of females, who I never thought I’d vote for, kicking around, so there is still some hope, however faint.

YMMV, of course.

Well the never took some thought but
LOL you don’t think it matters ‘who screws you’..........
I confess I don’t see how we can avoid being ‘part of the disaster’
I too could vote for either of the ladies.
YMMV ? sorry you’re over my head.
Don’t be like the guy that wouldn’t use ivory soap, because it was ONLY 99 and 44/100% pure.
