The hand-wringing over the Republican presidential field has not abated much since Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels announced he would not be seeking the GOP nomination, but a new name might soon be entering the fray, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, the guitar-playing, soul-searching libertarian from Michigan.

Mr. McCotter has told Politico he’s seriously considering a run and will make his decision in the next two weeks. Never heard of him? Well, here’s a McCotter primer:

His jams on a Fender Telecaster emblazoned with red, white and blue , although he has been known to pick up a Stratocaster as well. The conservative magazine Human Events posted a video of him musing on NATO’s military actions in Libya as he played blues licks, a Mountain Dew on the desk over his shoulder.

Still keeping my options open, but McCotter immediately becomes my personal front-runner if he gets in the race.

He would defiantly liven things up. He is a doctrinaire Reagan Consevative and plus he is hilarious. I would vote for him in a second.

I really like Rep. McCotter a lot. Team him with Rep West and let the fun begin!

Not well enough known. He’s pretty well known here in Michigan and at FR but not so much otherwise.

He gives a hell of a speech.

He’s an engaging guy. Frequently guests on “Red Eye” with Greg Gutfield. He’d be a huge long shot, but, hey, why not?

McCotter's been on the list for a few weeks now. Certainly would spice up the debates. Imagine, another person to make Pawelnty look even more boring.

Michele Bachmann
Haley Barbour
John Bolton
Herman Cain
Mitch Daniels
Newt Gingrich
Rudy Giuliani
Mike Huckabee
Jon Huntsman, Jr.
Gary Johnson
Thad McCotter
Roy Moore
Sarah Palin
Ron Paul
Tim Pawlenty
Rick Perry
Buddy Roemer
Willard Romney
Rick Santorum
Donald Trump

*Note: Those names in red are in the "I can't get drunk enough to vote for him" category.

A lot of FReepers will never forgive him for voting for the auto bailout.

However he and a lot of good conservatives voted for the wrong thing for the right reasons.

McCotter is AWESOME! Not sure he could make any waves though.

I’ve met the guy - a class act and funny as all get out.

McCotter is basically a “cool nerd.” Not the smoothest looking guy, but cool as heck and funny.

Reminds me of myself a little. (my wife would argue the “funny” part)

He did what he had to do for his constituents. Had he not supported the auto loans, we'd have one less good conservative in Congress.
