Conviction is nice, but only 18 years for premeditated murder isn’t much. In America the death penalty would be on the table.

The longest sentence for any crime in Sweden is 20 years, I believe, and to get that I think you need to be a repeat offender. If this was his first felony, it might be the longest sentence he could legally receive.

Not to mention that Swedish prisons are country clubs for the most part. Private rooms, curtains on the beds, halal meals, lots of “self-improvement” courses offered and things like that.

He’ll have a great time.

Actually, it would have been a more effective punishment just to have expelled him to the hellhole he came from.
