WASHINGTON Senate Republicans may hand President Barack Obama his first defeat on a judicial nomination, as they appear to have sufficient votes to sustain a filibuster against liberal law professor Goodwin Liu.
Democrats chose to force a vote Thursday to end GOP blocking tactics against the University of California, Berkeley, scholar. Senate aides from both parties said it did not appear the majority party could attain the 60-vote super-majority needed to stop a filibuster.

Excellent Smithers
“Berkeley scholar”
and Attack Dog against Roberts and Alito.
Whew... Flush this stinking turd Liu right down the toilet.
Wait...you mean welfare ISN’T a Constitutional right?
Excellent! It’s about time we gave the Dems a taste of their own medicine.
Wait until John McCain stabs us in the back.
Sadly, I wouldn’t be the least surprised if that happened.
??? Typical liberalspeak. Whatever he wrote will have no bearing on his actions? No, but his actions will come from the same set of views that were used to write the hateful tripe he wrote about Alito and put the anti-Constitutional views he expressed into the law. The 9th Circus is already liberal. It sounds as if Liu would actually pull the court to the left.
WIKIPEDIA
Liu is socially liberal. He has written in favor of affirmative action, abortion rights, and same-sex marriage and has been critical of Bush-era waterboarding policy and the death penalty. He testified in opposition to the confirmation of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, stating, “Judge Alito’s record envisions an America where police may shoot and kill an unarmed boy to stop him from running away with a stolen purse; where federal agents may point guns at ordinary citizens during a raid, even after no sign of resistance . . . where a black man may be sentenced to death by an all-white jury for killing a white man . . . and where police may search what a warrant permits, and then some.”.[24] He’s also written critically of Chief Justice John Roberts, stating of his nomination that “’free enterprise,’ ‘private ownership of property,’ and ‘limited government’” are “code words for an ideological agenda hostile to environmental, workplace, and consumer protections.”[24]
His positions are usually left-leaning; however, Liu has supported charter schools and government-funded vouchers for private schools, particularly if used as a tool to “promote racial diversity.”[7]
I’m shocked, really, that pinhead Lindsey Graham and Juan MccCain oppose this creep.
Wonder of wonders, Lius freewheeling constitutional approach yields a plethora of extreme left-wing results, including his support for the invention of a federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage. Also noteworthy is his denunciation of the traditional American principles of free enterprise, private ownership of property, and limited government as code words for an ideological agenda hostile to environmental, workplace, and consumer protections (see point 3 here).
But the vast discretionary judicial role that Liu urges one that reduces Congress and the state legislatures to quasi-administrative bodies fundamentally misunderstands (to restate Lius test of judicial philosophy) the role of the courts in a constitutional democracy. And the recklessness Liu would show in wielding judicial power is evident from his breezy conclusion that his proposed approach to constitutional welfare rights would invalidate Congresss method for allocating federal funds to states for the education of low-income children and would also strike down Californias system of school finance.
What? So he doesn't believe in his own crap?
This sounds like people who say that their religion will have no bearing on their public service. Whenever I hear that, I say, "what kind of believer are you anyway?"

They’ll make a show of stopping this one, them Obama will make it a recess appointment next time they leave town. They’ll roll over on all the others.
He can't do it alone as the demonRATS need at least 7 pubbies to switch.
If that happens, there will be hell to pay for those that cross over.
This ^%$#@ing ^%#@^ supports reparations. This guy needs to be buried in a university somewhere and left to rot.

I doubt it. At best there will be one or 2 angry articles by some bloggers, maybe a thread or 2 on FR with 30-40 replies if it’s not on American Idol night. If it is, forget about it, nobody will say a word.
McCain is blocking this radical progressive judge for the notorious 9th Circuit so this Liu must be beyond an avowed radical communist.
