This is a letter that I wrote to Senator Rubio's office over the weekend. Not that they'll listen to me, but one can always hope. Also, I wrote this before seeing all the info about the whole NBC debate which some constitutional lawyers says he could still meet under a court's definition of "NBC". I have defferred that issue to the "Great One" Mr. Levin in hopes he can squash some of the concerns since he also admires Senator Rubio and has stated his desire to see Mr. Rubio enter the race.
PS> This was just my opinion and the actions I took. Those of you waiting for Palin, West, etc to jump in, I suggest to write a similar letter. It's important these people know how serious the circumstances are and why they need to step up to the plate now.
Greetings and well wishes from one of your constituents here in South Florida. Firstly, I would like to congratulate you and extend my sincere gratitude in your fight to protect the rights of the individual, as well as promoting small, limited government based on solid conservative principles.
That said, however, I felt compelled to write you concerning an issue you seem reluctant to get further involved with at this time: Presidential Politics. I completely understand your unwillingness to pursue higher office at this time. After all, you were just elected Senator less than six months ago, and feel committed to fulfilling the promises you set forward that would benefit all Floridians. And since this short time has passed, you have not disappointed.
However, Senator, its time to take a closer look at how things stand at the moment on the national scale. The same factors that compelled you to go to Washington in the first place are not only wreaking havoc on Floridians, but the nation as a whole. And it is not getting any better, so long as President Obama is allowed to bully the Congress or veto promising legislation. I am afraid to say it, but I fear our Republican leadership in Congress has lost their way, and I believe that you would agree with me to an extent that Republicans are blowing their "chance" that you so articulately described in your victory speech.
With the dramatic results of the 2010 midterms, there should be great energy among conservatives in preparation of challenging and defeating the President for reelection. Indeed, there has been a lot of talk. But if you are anywhere still connected to your grass-roots supporters and communicating with them, even you should be fully aware that we are not happy at all with the suggested names. Sure, some of the candidates may be conservative in some areas, but they fail the test of conservatism in others. And many people (myself included) express trepidation at the thought of having to hold our noses again and support a nominee that falls far short of our expectations. Given the dire need to get the country back on the right track, we cannot afford to fail in 2012. But it appears that our party is once again snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
Senator, I am sure that I am by no means the first person to write you with intentions of persuading your entry into the race. However, where others have probably centered on your Hispanic background, youthfulness, or other superficial quality, let me focus on something much simpler: by all means of the "Reagan Test", you can be defined as a "full-spectrum" conservative. That is, whether the issue is an economic, social, domestic, or foreign policy concern, your views and beliefs fall in-line with mainstream conservatism. It may surprise you and you may even try to disagree with me, but given all the current and expected challengers in the upcoming GOP primaries, none of them meets this test as solidly as you do.
As I know you are also aware, being a full spectrum conservative gets a person nowhere in a campaign unless they can communicate that message in an effective manner. What you accomplished in the Senate race cannot be underestimated. Despite a three-man race, you still managed to pull almost an outright majority. It is obvious that it was not only conservatives who voted for you, but moderates, independents, and even some Democrats as well. And you managed to win those votes, not by shifting to the center, but by advocating conservative principles. This is a strategy/result that I can assure you is lost upon the Republican National Committee.
When you started your campaign for Senate, the grass-roots became very excited and you received their full support. You utilized this support to the best of your abilities and never disappointed. Going from 30 points down to 20 points up is an incredible accomplishment. And you never had to sell your soul out to the political game.
Senator, these same grass-roots, tea-party activists, and other conservatives are aching for a champion they can get behind with strong support to take down the Obama machine in 2012. You are the one person I believe who could unite the movements where other candidates seem to divide it at some part of the spectrum. And you are the only individual who possesses the abilities to communicate a non-watered down message of conservatism that will indeed attract independents and disoriented Democrats to our cause.
Again, I understand your modesty, but now is not the time to be humble when we are in danger of losing our country forever. Remember, the current President had zero executive experience and served in the Senate for a couple hundred days before declaring his candidacy. Ask yourself these three questions: "If I were President, would I propose to Congress legislation and ideas that would make the country more prosperous?" "Would I veto poor legislation that would hurt our country?" "Would I defend our country against all enemies?" If you can answer yes to all of these questions, you are qualified to be President.
Senator, it comes down to this: Do you want to save the country from it's current path of destruction, where debt, inflation, energy dependence, and high unemployment rule the day with no hope in sight? You may think your talents are best served remaining in the Senate, but if President Obama receives a second term, will it really matter?
I sincerely hope you consider the information I've presented, along with the countless others I'm sure have also written you urging a 2012 run. I'm not exactly sure what financial burdens are incurred with the formation of an exploratory committee, but I guarantee you an announcement of your entry into this race would catapult you to immediate front-runner status. Your modesty may prohibit such thoughts, but it doesn't get rid of that truth.
If you don't believe me, I implore you to talk to the grass-roots, members of the Tea Party, and your inner circle. This is more than just a plea for the "favorite son" mentality. This is a plea for someone to run that we know can defeat Barack Obama (and do it pretty convincingly) with a strong, alternative, conservative message that appeals to all voters.
Thank you for taking time to read my letter. May God Bless you and your family.
I don’t believe he is a Natural born American so he can’t run for President. Plus his immigration issue is not great. I know you write about how he has been great for six months and America needs him and all but I don’t believe he is ready. How about he runs for Governor....complete at least four years and then we can see. I mean the guy is just 40. Not time for X’ers yet....
I think he’s not a Natural Born Citizen, though that didn’t stop obama.
I think he can get a colb from HI. I wrote him off when he trashed me for worrying about Obama background and birth. I thought he was solid until then.
Can the hypocrisy be any more apparent?
It's too early to "step up to the plate". As far as Rubio goes, I hope he declines your request and stays in the Senate. Senators make lousy candidates and probably even worse presidents.

He is not a Natural Born Citizen.
Sadly.
Ain't nothin' sad about this. This Rubio fellow should take the bull by the horns and declare himself ineligible to run for President. Neither of his parents was an American citizen at the time of his birth in the US.
Colorín, Colorado
este cuento es acabado, Bebé,
The fact that he's playing cutesy with this does him no credit, nor does it help the credibility of those pushing his candidacy. This guy wants to prove how good an American he is, let him help us fish the ineligile turd out of the WH punchbowl by making a strong "Natural Born Citizen" statement.
I like your post.
He is not a natural born citizen.
One of the things I want to know as much, if not more, than the birth certificate stance:
Is he solidly and philosophically opposed to the concept behind the environmentalist control movement? On educated sense and principal? Listen, according to my interesting little "Everglades Handbook" (Thomas Lodge), Rubio's own state of Florida was, only 20,000 years ago, more than twice its size in land mass than it is now because the sea leavels were about 350 feet lower than today, and it was damned cold.
Only 20,000 years ago.
Furthermore, according to the same info using prior geology research and NOAH data, Rubio's state of Florida was, 125,000 years ago, only about half the landmass it is now because of sea levels 25 feet higher than today. You can still see traces of the old shoreline between Tampa and Orlando. One eighth of one million years ago -- a nanosecond in the context of the earth, although our recorded history doesn't register but a few percent of that.
I yearn for the the politician who will state that firmly, and solidly, as reason enough to dismiss OUT OF HAND the whole global warming cap-and-trade chicken little scam, and who will do it based on MATH, for crying out loud. Our knowledge of how, and how rapidly, such climate shifts occur, is necessarily so limited as to be laughable. Any talk of even recognizing it when it was happening, let alone controlling it, is the utmost in arrogant ignorance.
I so many ways, the enviromentalist hoax is becoming among my top litmus tests.
And I want to know: is he philosophically opposed to the health care take-over, as am I? Or is he of the opinion that it only needs to be tweaked differently?
That's another litmus test for me.
I don't' know where Rubio stands on either of these. Others: Where does he stand on Israel? Right to bear arms? Abortion?
Immigration is not nearly as much a concern because it is not so much a problem of Illegals as it is the free and consequence-free bait America puts out for them. Change that, and the immigration problem will shrink in huge magnitude.
He is Open Border and Amnesty,NO WAY!!
I have searched his biography and found he was born in the USA in 1971 and his parents fled Fidel Castro’s Cuba (late 1950’s?). I find no reference to when his parents became American citizens. Do you have a reference for that? Thanks. That makes a big difference in the Natural Born issue.
He’s a natural born citizen, meaning he was born here when the US was the US. The clause in the Constitution covers people who would have been British citizens at the time the US became the US, as well as those coming afterwards.
Some of the Founders themselves came of parents born in England or were born when the northern US was an English colony and thus were British citizens. But they certainly would not have been eliminating themselves in this clause, and in fact, the clause was intended to define their own status and that of people who were born here but were not necessarily involved in the Revolution when the colony became an independent state.
The only thing that matters with Bambi was whether he was born here or not. And the fact that he has spent so much time concealing his records indicates to me that he was not, although I think he was born in Canada rather than Kenya. However, if he was born here, he’s a citizen (but he may have other things to explain...such as parentage).
As for Rubio, no matter how much Freepers hate Hispanics and will do anything to shoot them down, Rubio is legally qualified.
So ignoring hostile I agree with your letter. Rubio is a really, really excellent speaker. He’s very polished but at the same time really touches base with a very diverse audience, ranging all the way from the blue-hairs to the bikers to the huge numbers of hippie freaks (musicians and artists, et al., including cartoonists in Orlando) who live here in FL.
I think Rubio does pass the Reagan test (but remember, some of Reagan’s policies were adopted later in his career, although I do think he believed in them, while Nancy never did).
I know that he’s adjusting to DC, and this must be very stressful. I don’t know anything about his wife, who is probably important in this decision.
Jeb Bush was a great Florida governor and would have been a better candidate and a better president than his brother (Jeb was more like his mom), but his wife did not like politics. She did a great deal of work while he was governor, particularly in getting support for Mission San Luis in Tallahassee, because she was both a native speaker of Spanish and knowledgeable about the arts and history. But she was not a campaigner, and that always influenced Jeb’s decisions.
Obama didn’t have to worry about having comments on his offensive wife, since anything she did was covered up by the press. But any GOP candidate will have a hostile press, so the candidate’s family has got to be ready for this.
It would be up to Rubio to provide the info on when, or whether his parents became citizens. He is being very coy about this particular topic, waiting to see which way the wind blows on the Mombasa Moonbeam.
Tell you right now, neither Rubio, nor Jindal is a “Natural Born American Citizen.”
Traditionally, “Natural Born Citizen” meant someone born of two (2) citizen parents. The parents can be naturalized citizens, Native-Born citizens, or Natural Born themselves. Hopefully, the Supreme Court will get off it’s collective duff and tell us what a “Natural Born Citizen” is once and for all. It was known by all and sundry until Obama decided to spend millions to convince us that the word “Native” = the word “Natural.”
Please don’t argue any more here. Argue with your elected representatives and the courts, both of whom have shirked their duty to defend the Constitution. No one on this site is authorized to interpret the Constitution.
Don’t tell Livius:

Rubio and Jindal will not be President and Rubio is going to get spanked real hard if he doesn’t stop playing games on this issue.
