Ga. college student a reluctant immigration symbol

ATLANTA – Jessica Colotl has always tried to keep a low profile — obeying the speed limit, making sure her lights work properly — knowing that a brush with law enforcement could lead to her deportation and cost her a college diploma.

After a few close calls, her fears were realized last spring, when she was stopped for a minor traffic violation, charged with driving without a license and turned over to immigration authorities. She spent 37 days in a detention center in Alabama before they let her out and said they would give her a year to finish her studies at Kennesaw State University.

Damn "anti-immigrant" people. President Deval Patrick will nominate her to the Supreme Court in 2020.

She spent 37 days in a detention center in Alabama before they let her out ...

Hmmm... I think I see the problem here. Perhaps if the sentence had read:

She spent 37 days in a detention center in Alabama before they took her to the nearest airport and stuck her on a plane back to her home country ...

There. That would have been the more ideal outcome.

The headline would have been more correct if it had said:

Ga. college student a reluctant illegal immigration symbol

So let me get this straight...IF I have done something illegal, and if I’m living off of other folk’s generosity, I can be forgiven if I drive carefully and keep a low profile.

You have to love liberals. No matter how low your self-esteem may be, you can always feel superior to them.

It’s funny how when time goes on with Liberals like AP that the perpetrator becomes the ‘victim’....this ILLEGAL enrolled fraudulently at Kennesaw State University, did not have a license to drive in Georgia, gave police a fake address AND and fake phone number......nope, not guilty here.....I’m glad her ass was deported.

Ideally, she should have never been allowed to enroll in college.

But, in reality, she picked the perfect hiding place - the educational system and its supporting people are extremely unlikely to report any illegal immigrant.

I now have to wonder how many more illegal immigrants are hiding inside America's Colleges? As for me, I just told my college and my son's college that they would get no donations or recommendations from me until they could prove to me that they have no illegal immigrants taking money and space from fully qualified students. Any one want to join me on this?

Did you read the article? She wasn’t deported. They let her go and let her finish her college degree so she can become an “immigration” lawyer.

I guess I was being facetious. Of course, illegals are never punished - we are. I'll tell you what all this illegal stuff has done for me; it has forced me to profile on decisions that I can make - hiring, hiring jobbers to do work on my house, shopping (I complain a lot to store managers about Mexican food aisles, Spanish writing on products, etc)

Why? I'm as natural born and Anglo as they come, and I eat more Mexican food then anything else.

I like the Mexican food aisles. Means I don't have to drive across town to the barrio as often.

Now she hopes to become an immigration lawyer."

As a criminal, she has broken laws including driving without a license, driving without insurance, falsifying identity (SS# to get into school), stealing funds from schools along the way with falsified identification for loans and residency/citizenship), and oh yeah, she is here illegally.

She has been caught so she should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. That may mean fines, jail time and ultimately deportation, but she should not be allowed to just ignore the law by dealing with this later. A simple driving without a license charge would normally lead to quick action by the State of Georgia. That should be the first thing taken care of.

Deporting illegals is one thing, but leave the Mexican food aisles the hell alone. Although they may not be as important to Georgians as they are to Texans. Mexican food is as revered here as bbq in the Carolinas.

Right.

Sure it’s a law, its not a LAW-law.

You know, like statutory rape not being rape-rape.

And stealing from big-bad-corporations not being stealing-stealing.

The aisles here in Georgia aren’t stocked with what I’d call your basic Gringo like-to-buy Texmex stuff. Regardless, of the type of food, I strongly object as an American to have to sift and search around labeling on a package to find some damned English! If I see a box of X that has spanish all over it and one that has none, guess which one I buy?

Another side of the coin, why is it that say I can’t go into a supermarket say in Wisconsin and buy hog jowls, chitlins, cracklin, grits, pigs feet et al but an illegal has a whole damned couple of aisles laid out for him with labeling only in HIS language?

Along those lines...I was watching TV last night when something hit me in a way it never had before:

the news story showed some official building somewhere (in the US) with a sign marker printed prominently with "INFORMATION."

And then, below that, printed just as prominently, "INFORMACÍON."
