If "America Can Do Whatever We Set Our Mind To"How Come Our Leaders Won't Set Their Minds on Jobs
HUFFPOST ^ | Posted: 05/10/11 02:59 PM ET | Arianna Huffington

"We do big things," President Obama said during his State of the Union speech in January. And, in fact, we do. Sometimes. Finding and dispatching Osama bin Laden certainly qualifies. "We are once again reminded," the president said after announcing the terrorist's death, "that America can do whatever we set our mind to."

But if that's true, why are our leaders so accepting of a stagnant economy? If they really focused on the havoc it is wreaking on the lives of tens of millions of Americans, they would, in the memorable words of Richard Clarke, be running around with their hair on fire.

But they're not. Instead, they express concern but resign themselves to the fact that, as White House economic adviser Austan Goolsbee put it in an interview with HuffPost, the economy has "a long way to go." Meanwhile, we're being asked to accept years of underemployment, low growth and draconian cuts to America's social safety nets as the "new normal." Or, as Bill Clinton put it in a different context, the "tyranny of low expectations."

All they need to do to “create” jobs is to reduce taxes on corporations and do away with unnecessary regulations that strangle growth.

In other words, get the he*l out of the way and let the market work.

Probably the most coherent thing I’ve read from her, and the headline is a gem.

But like all liberals, she’s operating under the theory that “government creates jobs”.

They may as well “set their minds” on the fountain of youth or skittles-pooping unicorns...

Because the way a Socialist Government works is by making the majority of the people dependent on the Government. Then those dependents will continue to vote in the Socialists. It's a vicious circle. I hope we can disrupt it before it's too late. And it is getting VERY LATE ALREADY.

Most jobs are created by small businesses that aren’t usually incorporated. Government needs to get out of the way and let citizens create jobs and new businesses. This would include a rollback of zoning, unecessary inspections, and licenses.

Because when Americans are out of work, they depend on congresscritters for handouts. And that dependency means votes.

next silly question.

"But if that's true, why are our leaders so accepting of a stagnant economy?"

Arianna, you ignorant slut, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT YOU, SOROS AND HIS OTHER HANDLERS GOT HIM ELECTED TO DO IN ORDER TO HERD AMERICA INTO THE NEW WORLD ORDER ABATTOIR. A perfect metaphor for how that works is contained in the old tale related below.

It seems that an area in Arkansas was plagued by a particularly aggressive and voracious roving band of wild hogs for many years and, although the local residents were thoroughly disgusted over the destroyed crops, injured domestic livestock, etc., their attempts to destroy or capture the hogs had met with complete failure.

One day a stranger stopped at the local hardware store, purchased some tools and grain, asked how to get to the last reported location of the porcine marauders and boasted that he would capture them and claim the large bounty the locals had offered. Those who heard his boast laughed as he went out the door and boarded his wagon.

Two weeks later, the stranger arrived back in town with the entire herd trussed and squealing in the back of his wagon. Amazed and incredulous, the townspeople asked how he'd done it. He told this story:

"I located a clearing near where I was told the hogs might be and set out a large pile of grain. At the same time, I began erecting a fence just beyond the edge of the clearing.

"The hogs discovered the grain on the third day. At first, they sniffed around the edge of the clearing, nervously darting into the woods at the slightest sign or sound of danger. Then the younger, less experienced ones became bolder to the point of approaching the edge of the pile, grabbing a few kernels and dashing into the trees.

"After several hours of this, the young hogs began feeding in earnest -- no longer darting away with those few kernels. Seeing this, the older hogs soon began shoving the young ones aside in what became a veritable feeding frenzy. The grain was soon gone.

"They returned the next day at daybreak to a fresh, larger pile of grain. They displayed little fear as they walked right up to it. They returned the next day, and the next, and the day after that, all the while growing bolder and showing less and less fear. By the 10th day, they had completely stopped foraging in the surrounding fields.

"All the while, I was building the fence -- a corral, really -- during the times when they were absent. Soon, however, I was able to work even while they were feeding.

"Yesterday morning, while they fed, I closed the gate. They didn't even try to escape.

"I've been capturing critters this way for years and it always works. Why? Well I learned a long, long time ago that there isn't a creature on the face of the earth I cannot capture -- ONCE I HAVE IT DEPENDENT ON ME FOR ITS SUPPORT OR SURVIVAL!

didn’t pay her writers anything

However, the bloggers on her site had a place to write their stories, build their own self worth by by cross posting and gaining an audience through the HuffPo popular site. She gave them the platform to do so. They were not hired employees. They however wanted to share in the wealth that Huffington then did receive, saying it was their writing which drew people to the site. $105 million in damages is the magic number. AOL has said the lawsuit is without merit.

Share the wealth attitudes or redistribution of, can come back to bite you. Sometimes you get to ride the bus, other times you may fall under the bus. ;)

Google has used a "ride the google train" attitude in negotiating contracts--meaning you should take less for your product just to ride on our train.

Now, she writes this story, as she now lives in a real business world, in a real company-AOL- up against like competitors all of which have shareholders to please.

One guy suing should have thought about this in a business sense before and during the 216 pieces over the 5 years. He had no contract--just a place to write his opinion.

If Jim gets an offer for $100 Mil for FreeRepublic.com should FReepers here writing opinion and cross posting over the years expect Jim to pay out? :)
