Ex-Calif. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver announced they are "amicably separating," after 25 years of marriage.
In a joint statement released Monday night, the couple said they are living apart while "they decide on the future of their relationship."
"This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us. After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together," the statement said.
Schwarzenegger and Shriver said they plan to continue to "parent their four children together."
"They are the light and the center of both of our lives," they said in the statement.
The couple married in 1986.
Both Schwarzenegger and Shriver said they consider this a private matter and plan to not release any further comment.
"We ask for compassion and respect from the media and the public," the statement said.

Speculation on my part:
Schwarzenegger is a womanizing guy, and she’s a democrat. Usually democrat politicians’ wives just put up with it, especially if they run for president.
Since he’s a Republican and also CAN’T run for president, maybe she won’t put up with it anymore.
Plus, she looks anorexic, which could be a sign of deep unhappiness.

Yeah... and her decent parents are dead. She can drop the devout Catholic pretense like the rest of her pathetic family.
He could have been such a conservative star, and returned California to the glory days. Instead, he sold his soul for the fame of being married to a Kennedy. That was his dream growing up - to come to America and ascend to the power elite. He wanted it all - now he has nothing.
She couldn’t wait to get rid of him, once his days as a political star were done.
This is what she was told to do all along. That was the plan - derail this potential conservative star.
Maria Shriver - well done. Mission accomplished.
