Thanks for the info. My great grandmother hailed from Water Valley, Mississippi (100% Choctaw)...was “relocated” to Indian Territory. My mother was born in Poteau in 1920.

I think it is awesome you know your great grandmother's history. I was told time and again by my grandmother that her grandmother was, her words, 'full blood Cherokee'. Other than her name, which strangely is an English name, I have not been able to find anything else about this woman. I sure wish now I had been wise enough to ask more questions.

If your mother knew your great grandmothers name, maybe you can trace her through the Bureau of Indian Affairs. IF the Army took the names of the people being transferred to Indian Territory.

This is my father's mother, my grandmother, who has long since returned to the Maker. Her grandmother, (mygggrandmother) she described, would have lived in the early to mid-1800's. TN is where this branch of my ancestors met up. My grandmother would always describe her grandmother with 'a full blood Cherokee'. I was not wise enough to ask more specific questions.
