We Got Him!

When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices; when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy. Proverbs 11:10, NIV

We finally got him. Almost a decade after the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001, justice has been meted out to the mastermind of Islamic terror, Osama bin Laden.

Though it may seem morbid to rejoice and celebrate over the killing of a person, his demise offers those afflicted by the tragedy of 9/11 an important sense of closure, and the men and women who have put their lives on the line in the War on Terror a feeling of great triumph. It also offers an opportunity for moderate Muslims to reclaim their faith from a man who hijacked it in the name of global jihad.

Osama bin Laden's career of terror didn't begin on 9/11. He desire to destroy western institutions (represented best, in his mind, by the United States of America) and his embrace of militant jihad may be traced back to the beginning of the first Gulf War. Most recall the devastating attacks against U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole, and the first attack on the Twin Towers in New York City. These represent but a few of the attacks planned and executed by bin Laden over the years in his quest to realize his megalomaniacal, radical goals.

In executing his campaign of destruction, bin Laden has always been ruthless and altogether without honor. Indeed, it appears that his cowardice and depravity knew no depths. Massive collateral damage was never considered a problem for bin Laden's al Qaeda; no attempts were ever made to shield innocents from the impact of their attacks. Muslims and non-Muslims alike were fair game. In bin Laden's mind, anyone not practicing the same brand of Islam or pursuing the same path of jihad was guilty in the eyes of God and deserving of death. No one is exempt, and no one is safe. This is the essence of terrorism, and was the heart of bin Laden's evil.

It's a great relief, then, to know that he will never again be able to mastermind another attack on innocents, never be able to plant the seeds of terror in the hearts and minds of freedom-loving peoples around the world.

Hopefully, bin Laden's death will embolden peace-loving Muslims to speak out against radical Islam. In the past decade, Osama bin Laden's twisted ideology in large part defined the western world's view of Islam, and the hesitance for moderate Muslims to stand against his poisonous crusade only reinforced these negative perceptions. Now, however, there is a chance to change that, to show that Islam truly is a religion of peace capable of embracing liberty and the secular rule of law.

For his part, President Obama deserves accolades for persevering in this struggle, for continuing the mission begun by President Bush so many years ago. Regardless of party affiliation, everyone should appreciate that the Commander in Chief had the fortitude and vision to do what needed to be done when it truly counted.

Does bin Laden's death mean the final defeat of al Qaeda? Certainly not. But it does send a message to bin Laden's disciples that our commitment to eradicating terror is every bit as strong as their commitment to spreading it. They thought they could wear us down; they thought we would forget. They were wrong.

Undoubtedly, there remains more work to do. Those committed to an ideology of murder and destruction will not give up easily. The commitment of America and her allies to defeating terrorism around the globe is more critical than ever, particularly as the peoples of the Middle East have begun rising up to pursue freedom in their own lands.

May God bless the families of those that have given their lives in this worthy struggle, and those that continue to sacrifice every day in the service of justice and human dignity.

Glad to be reminded of that scripture - I have seen numerous people saying that it was terrible for people to be rejoicing at the death of this evil madman. I hope I hear this scripture quoted whenever the issue comes up.

The left is trying to make it some kind of moral issue, that we should not celebrate. That’s foolishness. I WILL celebrate the defeat of evil.

This is how I see it...by death A man who PROMOTED evil and destruction to many people is gone. ....

40 SEALs have died fighting the war against terrorism. A few widows and children are left behind. Osama bin Laden’s death doesn’t undo this or the attacks that have been committed during his lifetime. ............But there is pleasure in knowing that the government is following through with God’s command to bring........ “wrath on the one who practices evil” (Romans 13:4).

Some examples of:

Goliath was a tyrant who had been taunting Israel for a long time as had bin Laden been terrorizing the U.S. for about ten years. Both Goliath and bin Laden were shot in the face but with different weapons. Both bodies were immediately disposed of......David in 1 Samuel 17.

David and his mighty men are on the run from Saul when David gets word that the Philistines are plundering the people of Keilah..... God’s desire was for David to proceed onward “using violence to stop this evil”.... Ben Laden was even more evil.. .....Samuel 23:1-5.

Tthe Bible essentially says that “it”... (i.e. the authorities or government) ....”does not bear the sword for nothing” and that it is a “minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil........Romans 12:19 to Romans 13:4

This is the opening line of a song of celebration Moses and the people of Israel sang following the drowning of the Egyptian army when the Red Sea closed in on them. In the Old Testament, the song goes unchallenged by God.......

“I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; horse and rider he has thrown into the sea.” ......Ex:14:26–15:21.)

"For his part, President Obama deserves accolades for persevering in this struggle, for continuing the mission begun by President Bush so many years ago."

BS. Obama has been continuing the work started by Osama (rebuilding the caliphate). He has turned over billions in aid and oil to Al Qaeda in Libya and assisted the islamists in taking over Egypt and Yemen. Assassinating "Bin Laden" served to distract everyone's attention from Obama's actions and insulate him from any criticism for aiding the terrorists. It also improved his chances of reelection. It is likely that the rising stars of "Al Qaeda" threw Osama under the bus in order to help their benefactor. Al Qaeda was quick to confirm the death of "Bin Laden", thereby helping with the victory lap.

Obama a Great Benefactor to Al-Qaeda

Given that Obama supposedly knew Osama's location since at least last fall, why did he wait this long and not longer (e.g., until October 2012)?:

Did latest WikiLeaks revelations force U.S. to take out Bin Laden?

Thanks for pointing out those Biblical examples of how evil is to be dealt with - and subsequently celebrated.

I was also reminded of Psalms 11:10 - shouting in the streets when an evil man perishes.

” When JUSTICE is done it brings JOY to the rightous....but TERROR to evildoers.”

Prov. 21:15

I suspect some Al-Queda members and other terrorists are getting a taste of terror themselves now. Thus to escape that, and because of their lack of critical thinking for a lifetime of heavy indoctrination of hate...they will lash out. They are in a vicious cycle that they alone cannot escape from within themselves.
