Nice to know we now live in a country where a simple phone call can trigger a full blown SWAT response from 16 different police departments.

The comments posted at that site are from people even more pissed than the average freeper!

Did they shoot his dog?
How much damage did they do to his house? Who’s gonna pay for the repairs and all that overtime???

The story reminds me of a “Far Side” cartoon where a man is sitting in a bar watching the news on TV and his friend says, “Hey, isn’t that your dog biting the President?”

Its a good thing, he wasn’t home pondering suicide. They would have busted in and killed him, and any family pets.

It's time for the city to start charging the police union pension funds for ostentatious mistakes such as this.
Hit them in the pocketbooks and maybe, just maybe they'll check the owner of the home like cops used to before the damned Patriot Act.
What the h*ll is so patriotic about suspending constitutional liberties?

well-being check
Sounds like some kind of prison rules.

Let me guess, they had no warrant for this “well being check”. Sounds like another loophole to get around the constitution, just like the “your papers please” fishing expeditions thinly disguised as DUI or road safety checkpoints. But I'm sure the sheeple don't mind, that heavily armed swat team breaking in your door is just there to check on your “well being” after all...

The bill to the tax payers was $75,000 -- Cops are referring to this operation as a well-being check. How many of these "well being checks" do they perform a year?
And why is this costing the tax payers this enormous amount of money to contact this person and speak with him about his well being, and to see if he's OK? They show up in armored cars, body armor, swat and paramilitary police troops?

Seems we’re back in the same boat as the colonists of old:
“He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.
“He has kept among us, in times of peace, standing armies without the consent of our legislature.”
We now have a standing army, immune to civilian oversight, as none of them can be held personally responsible for their policies or acts.

It just goes to show how dated those Police Academy movies are. Stuff like this used to be considered "comedy" because it was relegated to absurd TV and movie plots.
Reminds me of the the TSA scene in the movie Airplane 2.
