The last time President Obama went to Ground Zero was 2008, and he was with John McCain for what both campaigns described, without irony, as a non-political observance of the anniversary of the 2001 attacks.
Any time a politician goes to Ground Zero -- in September or otherwise -- and especially with a retinue of national media in tow, it's deeply political.
Which is what makes Obama's planned trip to Ground Zero on Thursday so curious. What's he going to say? How to avoid making a post-kill mission trip to the hallowed ground not appear exploitative and intensely political?
"He risks overdoing it," said Cindy Rugeley, a political scientist at Texas A&M University. "You don't want to appear like you are taking advantage of the situation."

What choice does he have? He literally does not have ANYTHING else he can point to in the last 2.5 years and say (proudly or popularly) "Hey, I did that".
What's he going to discuss - gas? Wars? Guantanamo? Gas? Unemployment? Economic Growth? Did I mention gas?
