Gas prices are on the rise nationwide, but one filling station in Florida has earned the dubious distinction of having the highest prices in the country.

Suncoast Energys, located near the Orlando International Airport, was charging $5.69 a gallon for regular gasoline on Friday. That's the highest of any gas retailer in the nation, according to price tracker gasbuddy.com.

By contrast, the average price in the city of Orlando is $3.78 a gallon, a few pennies below the state and national averages.

Patrick DeHann, senior analyst at gasbuddy.com, said many tourists use the station before returning rental cars on the way to the airport, without realizing how expensive the gas is until it's too late.

-—...many tourists use the station before returning rental cars on the way to the airport,...-—

Gas stations in these strategic locations are an absolute gold mine. A typical customer is coming off a long day/week of endless meetings, hotels, etc., and all you want to do is get outta Dodge - ASAP!. The last thing you care about is the price of fuel.

This gas station has always been $1.50 higher than anyone else for at least 15 years that I have visited Orlando. It is right near the car rental area where people need to refill before turning in their cars.

The manager of Suncoast Energys, Bob Barnes, confirmed Friday that the station is also charging $5.74 a gallon for medium grade gas and $5.79 for premium.

When told that these were the highest prices in the nation, Barnes said, "I don't know about that; we don't check other prices."

What a big fat liar.

That gas station right by the airport and rental car return places has always charged outrageous prices. They will reduce to a normal price if you show your FL drivers license.

How is this guy any different than the car rental companies themselves when they charge an exorbitant amount to fill the tank when you turn it in?

I rented a car last week at Enterprise and pre bought a tank of gas at $2.89 per gallon. A full dollar less than the going rate here.

This idiot will be over 6 bucks very soon. This station has never had a price sign out front. Folks don’t find out the price unless they look at the pump.

I’m thinking if he’d actually post a price sign out front and then raise to 7 bucks a gallon he’d probably draw tourists in to get their pics taken next to the sign ;-)

What a big fat liar.

LOL! Why do you say that? The guy probably uses a formula like "X times the wholesale price". He's obviously not interested in being competitive, so why would he care what other prices are?
