On Sunday afternoon, a motorist spotted a suspicious device along U.S. Expressway 77/83 in Brownsville and reported it to police. The device turned out to be an improvised explosive device.
The expressway was shut down for about three hours Sunday, as the bomb squad “rendered the device safe," Brownsville police spokesman Eddie Garcia said.
It is still unknown exactly how the explosive device ended up on the roadway, but IEDs are sometimes used by the drug cartels in their ongoing war. Of course, drug gangs are battling one another just across the border in Matamoros.
According to an April 13th report from the private intelligence firm known as Stratfor: “The use of IEDs in Mexico is nothing new.”
The report stated: “Mexican officials have frequently encountered explosives, including small amounts of military-grade explosives and far larger quantities of commercial explosives, when they have uncovered arms caches belonging to the cartels.”
The Stratfor report also described a large amount of explosives discovered by the Mexican military on April 1, just on the other side of the border from Brownsville.

Iran has it’s finger prints on this....... They’ve been sending recruits to Mexico for some time.
They used to be “bombs,” now they’re IEDs.
Maybe it was jounced out of the back of a pickup truck filled with them.
How could Bush have brushed off his own military intelligence this badly? It’s not like this was such a deep dark secret that it would take a CIA plant in Mexico City to discover it. Just talk to the people you meet.
I was going to ask if you dropped something...maybe fell out of the truck. Anyway, if this is a Mexican device I wouldn’t be surprised. We simply refuse to control our border. Interesting that Obama bombs Libya in the name of humanity but refuses to lift a finger for Mexico. If any nation is corrupt and in need of intervention it is that place.
