Hizb ut-Tahrirs Anti-Syrian Regime Demonstration in Tripoli Ends without Incident
Hizb ut-Tahrir's demonstration in support of the Syrian protests... which defied a ban by Lebanese authorities, began after Friday Muslim prayers in front of al-Mansouri mosque in Tripoli and marched towards the Nijmeh square in the northern port city amid heavy security presence. LBC television reported that a "very modest" number of demonstrators took part in the event, noting that a few members of the Salafist movement marched in the rally. They demanded that the government adopt more openness towards such movements. OTV said that the demonstrators did not exceed 1,000. Agence France Presse reported that the demonstrators held banners demanding a halt to the "massacres against the Syrian people." Others tried to chant anti-Syrian regime slogans, but members of Hizb ut-Tahrir stopped them. The party's media official, Ahmed al-Qasas said before the crowds: "We belong to one Islamic ummah and aiding our Syrian brothers is a religious duty. A day will come when the Islamic caliphate will be established throughout the Arab and Islamic world," he stressed. The founder of the Salafist movement in Lebanon, Dai al-Islam al-Shahhal, called for an end to the "massacres being committed against the Syrian people."

Unfortunately Hizb ut-Tahrir is about as radical as they come.

Well sure, but other than that...

[snip] Hizb al Tahriri is a Muslim movement which works to convince Muslims to overthrow their present governments peacefully and establish a worldwide caliphate, which would then impose conservative Islam upon all majority Muslim countries. The organization is banned in all Arab countries except for Lebanon, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates. [pins]

Yet Glenn Beck is a conspiracy theorist for talking about it. (That’s where I learned about these peaceful islamdertals)

It just goes to show that no matter where you turn in the mideast you’ll run into radical muslims who seem to be the rule rather than the exception.

Well, Hizb al Tahriri or Hizb ut-Tahrir has been prancing around in Australia too. They are not banned in Australia.

IIRC, about a yr ago, I posted a link, on FR, to one rather illuminating yet ineffectual (IMO) - approx. 10 minute - interview which was conducted by an Australian ‘current affairs program’ with one of the ‘Hizb’s’ representatives in Australia. That hizb tahrir interviewee was continuously evasive, danced around direct questions being asked, even when the questions involved direct quotes (according to the Ausralian program host) from literature disseminated by the Hizb. The same Hizb representative appeared on ‘insight’ (another Ausralian program) months later, w/ same evasive tactics when asked about their beliefs, never directly answering direct questions.

A small rally of Hizb ut-Tahrir group was also shown on Australian tv around the height of the recent unrest in Egypt. Once again, the same representative (a young guy) said they wanted Islamic (Sharia) law in Egypt and all moslem countries. Actually, in the past, they’ve said they want Sharia law in Australia too. But, Australia, thankfully & in these matters, has not reached the dizzy heights as for instance the UK. Hopefully, it’ll remain as such.

Hizb ut-Tahrir WANTS WORLD-WIDE SHARIA. Wanting and getting are two different things.

Wanting and getting are two different things.

True. Though, wanting is usually a precursor to getting it, provided opportunity to see it to fruition is also present. As few as they may appear at present, they seem to strongly want it.
