Lord Dannatt urged the international coalition to seek a fresh UN Security Council resolution specifically authorising the move.
He said that while UN forces should not be sent onto the ground in Libya, it should be possible to support groups opposing Colonel Gaddafi should be armed, equipped and trained.

Uh, OK, Mr. Lord Dannatt - how much time and investment of our resources do you think this would take. I suspect years and billions. I’m not interested. I can’t imagine why this would be a good thing for the US to do (I know the article says UN, but we all know what that really means).
UK has an army? Who knew?
“He also said that reports that Gaddafi had been using cluster bombs during the siege of Misurata had further weakened the Libyan leader’s position.”
This Misurata cluster bomb has the smell of BS all over it. Of course, the partisan media shills won’t seize on its falsity after Americans have died in ground combat in Libya — because that’s what partisan media shills are all about.
ALSO — this is proof positive that NATO doesn’t have the political will to put boots on the ground, and as long as Gaddafy’s no-doubt-enormous ammo stores hold out, there won’t be any stalemate. The jihadists make advance, using up their own weapons and ammo; the Libyan army gives ground, then after a short interval it launches a counterattack, slaughters the jihadists, who flee back to Benghazi.
This is not a statemate, it’s an out-wait operation.
Gaddafy only has to survive to win.
Thanks! & see #4.
Spend you own damn money a-hole.
200 million dollar plus in missiles if anything large enough to fire a cluster warhead is operatable, somebody in charge of targeting needs be put on KP duty until they retire. Not only is it fake as hell, but that one goes up beside the milk factory sign.
(He is a retired General, not a retired member of the Lords)
Arming the Libyan rebels is not as easy as it sounds. These Arab countries have no good guys to speak of. It was different in post WWII Germany and Italy where there were Christian Democrats whom we could trust with power.
Let’s just keep in mind that the Labour Party destroyed the hereditary House of Lords. And that by this time almost everyone with “Lord” before his name was put there by a grateful Labour government.
Why should we give a damn who rules Libya?
“Lord Dannatt”
There is a book about the WWI British Officer Corp. The book is titled The Donkeys and in it “the author explores the truth of the observation that British troops were “lions led by donkeys.””
I don’t think much has changed. Only Pansy has a more deer in the headlights look than this guy.
:’)
British nobility is behind the brit gun laws - they all originated with the lordships being nervous about revolution, even though they had bled english youth to the bone during WWI. Now the craplords are arming and training al Quaida to the same ends, after having imported half the ummah into their nation for takeover.
There’s isn’t enough rope in all the world for these people.
There are no good guys in that fight, so even up the odds so more on both sides are killed.
The jihadist bloodbath in the UK will of course have the full support of the Kenyan-born Muzzie.
Are you serious? The cluster munition mortar shell is fired from a 120mm mortar tube. It can be vehicle mounted, wheeled or trailer mounted along with being deployed on its own stand. Easily hidden and operated. Also consider the difficulty of targeting inside a city such as Misrata? The aim is not to generate more casualties and loss of civilian infrastructure. If you look at the news footage Gaddafi has tanks in Misrata. In most cases they are untouchable to air strikes under the rules of engagement because they are hidden in civilian infrastructure. It isn’t a black and white situation where air strikes can be conducted anywhere.
All the Libyan Army positions in Misrata could be wiped out with concentrated air strikes, but that would mean civilians would be killed in their thousands. It just isn’t acceptable and would be a violation of the Geneva Convention.
You do realise the size of a 120mm mortar?

try reading post four, now do it slowly so you do not get confused again.
It is still a cluster bomb. The term is layed out in international conventions on types of munitions. For example Aerial Cluster Bomb and Mortar Cluster Bomb.
http://www.clusterconvention.org/files/2011/01/Croatia.pdf
It is a term and it is still a Cluster Munition that has been used and dispersed from the bomb (Mortar).
The ragtags have for several days made the claim that daffy was using illegals weapon, ie cluster bombs, not mortar rounds. He has no delivery system for a cluster bomb, both groups have been using mortars all along, just. Daffys men know how to aim theirs.
