April 13, 2011 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- A 10-year-old boy was among those hit in a drive-by shooting on Chicago's Southeast Side.
Police say the shooting happened at approximately 9 p.m. Tuesday during a barbecue party honoring someone who was killed last year.
Remnants of the party were scattered Wednesday throughout the vacant lot near 79th Street and Escanaba in the city's South Chicago neighborhood. The night before, a group of people gathered to remember a friend who was shot and killed in the same place in 2010. But the memorial ended abruptly when someone opened fire on the crowd from inside a car, injuring four men and the 10-year-old boy.
"We were having a celebration for my man, Faison. He passed away last year over gang violence, you know how it goes. And I guess people saw us having a good time and celebrating, and some people had to come and mess up what we had going on right here," said neighbor Malon Moore.
Area resident Ameenah Mohammed walked her 6-year-old son past the crime scene Wednesday morning and said she worried about her family's safety.
"I'm walking my son to school for his first day right now, and to hear such tragic news, I think that's just ridiculous," she told ABC7 Chicago.
According to detectives, the shooting victims were standing on the street when a black car traveling westbound on 79th Street pulled up, and someone in the car started shooting a handgun into the crowd.

How, exactly, does the journalist who wrote this suppose that works?
We faced this problem once before. It was only cured with reservations and whatnot. Maybe we should try that again?
What? The land of milk and honey? AGAIN?
Who is going to stop the killings in Chicago? Who you gonna call - a Democrat?
Calling Mayor Ballerina Emanuel; Calling former Sen. Obama; calling former Mayor Daley Jr. Calling Red Rep. Danny Davis.
Keep voting that way Chicagoans, and you’ll be burying your young on a daily basis. That’s what is happening in Washington, D.C.
You never learn, do you?
No, no I don't know "how it goes," only had two murders in my county in the last 60 years. I can't imagine a drive by shooting. Of course we are allowed to have guns here and everyone owns at least one.
Society has changed for the worse in recent decades.
Even if you are a good liberal, you have to concede that there were not all these drive by shootings years ago. Yes, there was gang violence and a criminal element in the ghettos, but not the drive-by shootings.
And if you are a good liberal, what do you think is the cause of these shootings? Is it acceptable to shoot somebody because you were “dissed”, for example?
And what do the liberals think should be done about this sort of problem? Is it due to racism? Are certain people just feral savages, from whom we can only expect such violent anti-social behavior?
What do Al Sharpton, Barack Obama, or Jesse Jackson think should be done about gang violence?
Well, looks like gun control in Chicago is sorta working. They got gun ownership narrowed down to just the criminals now.
Was it a custom Continental or an El Dorado? Because I'm wondering if LeRoy Brown has an alibi.
What do Al Sharpton, Barack Obama, or Jesse Jackson think should be done about gang violence?

Blame rich white people?
It started to changed on or about January 8, 1964, and it began with the words delivered in a State of the Union address by then President Johnson. And, those words were subsequently described at the start on the "war on poverty...."
It has gotten progressively worse everyday since.
He gotta 32 gun in his pocket for fun, and a razor in his shoe.
Well, you know. Just a couple of bad people can give a place a negative reputation.
I don't think it was in his pocket. Although he might have upgraded to a 9mm gangsta gun.
Bad Bad LeRoy Brown, Baddest man in the whole damn towm.

Damn and it’s not even summer yet!
