The Arizona Senate approved the so-called ‘birther’ bill requiring 2012 presidential candidates to prove they were born in the U.S. and are thus eligible to run for president.

The measure, House Bill 2177, is aimed at President Barack Obama and those on the political right who want him to produce a birth certificate proving he was born in Hawaii and not Kenya, where his father if from.

The Arizona Legislature passed the bill 20-8 on a party-line vote in the State Senate with Republicans backing and Democrats opposing.

The measure includes some changes that allow for other documents beside birth certificates to be produced by presidential contenders. It now goes back to the Arizona House of Representatives for another vote. The House previously approved the birther bill without new Senate changes.

One state at a time. I understand that it only takes 3 states.

We need at least one state to require a long from birth certificate of the Pres and VP candidates. Of course, I’m sure that Rats will challenge the requirement in court, but that kinda tips their hand. Why oppose such a measure?

why would anyone vote against this bill? Unless you knew your president was not eligible and you’re a democrat.

Actually, it should only take ONE state.

He’ll have a tough time explaining why he doesn’t bother getting on the ballot in the one state where he is required to show that he is eligible for POTUS.

Does this mean when Obama runs for re-election he will be forced to produce his Long form birth certificate?

The bugaboo here is that, not having demanded resolution to the problem early on, time has been made available to generate the best forgery that money can buy.

The Arizona senate is useless. Did they even mention ‘natural born Citizen’ one time in this bill? These are the ass-hats that have taken an oath to protect and defend a Constitution they know nothing about. Pathetic.

They stop Voter ID laws in court all the time... all across the country.

Any law Democrats don't like they can just stop with frivolous lawsuit.

I’m with ya. I don’t know why it wasn’t written in the state election law in the 1st place. I think all 50 states should embrace this.

The bill is going to allow for other documentation than birth certificates. I wonder what that means? Obama is likely to submit his COLB and his Costco photo ID card and declare victory.

They oppose positive voter ID without “tipping their hand” that they depend on voter fraud to win elections.

That solves everything. A certified, exemplified, self authenticating, COLB short form from the State of Hawaii will be accepted as a prima facie showing.
