Sound too good to be true? It is. First of all, it is a real FBI document -- that's not in dispute. The problem lies in the content of it, all the flying saucer, alien body stuff.
In most of the stories published this week about the alien encounter, only a handful have made a big deal of the fact that this is not a "newly released" document or that the story is a hoax.
"It was one of the documents I got in the first bunch of documents out of a total of 1,600 that were released by the FBI way back in the late 70s," said retired U.S. Navy optical physicist Bruce Maccabee.
Maccabee actually obtained the document from the FBI via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in 1977 and even wrote about it in his 2000 book, "UFO-FBI Connection" (Llewellyn Publications).
Maccabee is a renowned investigator of UFO photographs and visual evidence.
"First of all, the document was in this official FOIA release, so I have no doubt that the document is true," Maccabee told AOL News.
As to the contents of the document, "it appears this was the result of a story told by (oil scam artist) Silas Newton, during a lecture at the University of Denver on March 8, 1950 (two weeks before the document was written)," Maccabee explained.
"Newton tried to convince some potential oil company investors that he had secret alien technology that could be used to locate underground oil.

The ‘X-Files”?.....................
Your thoughts?
A number of years ago I was speaking with a retired FBI agent about a funny incident at the Bureau. Reportedly, Hoover was a sticker for precise communication and formatting of written correspondence. So a document on some aspect of terrorism had been created in the Bureau and all that was needed was a transmittal letter signed by Hoover. The package went in and he signed it but on the staff summary sheet he wrote, Watch those borders. Overnight the Bureau had every available agent on the Mexican and Canadian borders making sure no terrorist got in. It was several days later that he raised the issue again and said, You folks seem to be getting careless with the borders on your letters. Lets watch it!
Given that, what’s your take on this UFO memo?
Sure looks like a hoax to me. Bureau folks have probably had a good laugh over it too.
Thx.
I think Linda Moulton Howe’s take on it is probably as good as any . . . maybe there was a good summary on ATS, too.
I’ll check both.
1. Clearly the FBI knew something about the facts. Maybe not exhaustively but something of the true facts more or less in real time.
2. I personally believe the FBI vault documents are valid . . . certainly many FBI docs are merely reporting what XYZ person(s) said . . . regardless, the FBI knew there were crashes near Roswell and that critters were involved.
3. The docs concerned at this time may merely be a very cautious incremental move toward more disclosure . . . though still in a deliberately muddy way.
I may not get back to this until later.
Re-reading the OP . . .
I think Macabee probably has it about right.
I was about ready for something meaty to hit the news.
Honestly, come back to reality.
This is a colossal waste of your energy and time.
Isn’t it interesting that these “aliens” all came back when our technology was relatively primitive.
Now, nothing....Unicorns, gold at the end of rainbows.
In due course.
I’m hoping, praying that heavy duty deceptive “DISCLOSURE” is DELAYED as long as possible.
When it comes, life will never be the same . . . in uncomfortable ways . . . until after Armageddon.
So . . .
how would you define “reality” vis a vis such issues, phenomena etc?
