Racism on Atlanta PD- vanity

Posted on 04/11/2011 8:50:08 AM PDT by 13Sisters76

Son just got back from the Atlanta police job fair. He was rejected immediately for some nautical tattoos he has on his arm. He got his artwork over the 10 years he has spent as a merchant marine and they are easily hidden. Funnily enough, he was able to eavesdrop long enough to hear a black man, covered in what looked like "gang tats" that HIS wouldn't be a problem.

My son is a good, honest family man and a hard worker. Atlanta turned its back on a guy who worked hard to obtain a captain's license and certificates for everything from CPR, to scuba diving, to fire rescue, all through the Coast Guard. And Atlanta did this because he is white and had the least reason to dismiss him.

It's ok, as I told Young Son, God is in charge and this will work out. He wants a job that allows him to be home for his new baby-on-the-way, and He knows this. But I must wonder if THIS is what MLK wanted- a time when blacks would achieve power and then become racists as evil as any they replace. Is this how it works?

BO and Eric Holder see nothing wrong with prejudice against Whites. They wouldn’t be where they are today without affirmative action quotas paving their way. They certainly did not get there on merit.

For curiousity’s sake: how was your son rejected, how did the conversation go (question and answer details) and what was the race of the dude who rejected your son?

I don't wonder. I know it is NOT what he wanted.

But there is something that I must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice. In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.

...

I say to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

He could make more money in one lawsuit against the city of Atlanta if this were true, than he could make in 20 years on the police force...

If he can’t get on with the Atlanta PD, see if any of the surrounding suburban departments are hiring. He’d probably be a whole lot safer out there anyway.

Those people are fostering hate and racism. Wonder if they thought this out i.e., end result.

What do you mean easily covered??? Most of the cop out fits require no visible tats in a short sleeve shirt. Try the county and surrounding counties.

If your son is as fine a man as you make him out to be, then how about steer him towards the private sector? This country has far, far too many tax-feeding gov't employees in general, and far, far too many cops in particular.

Hard workers are wasted in gov't "jobs" but desperately needed in the private (productive) sector.

I've seen more than one decent person go into gov't "work" and quickly become worthless - like politics, gov't employment has a corrupting effect on most people.

TOO MANY people have forgotten this. Thank you for posting it.

Did anyone see the Stossel report over the weekend entitled Freeloaders? I think it ran last week or the week before also. I had missed earlier the segment on the black farmers and the white attorney that has represented them. If it’s on again, don’t miss it.

What a slimey, smarmy piece of garbage. Stossel doesn’t mince words and asked what the attorney had gotten out of the lawsuits. His answer was “Not much.” Stossel asked again, “$10 million, $20 million?” You could see the muscles working in the attorney’s temple and jawline - he didn’t like having the question asked but he thought he was hiding his contempt.

His theory - white men don’t need any help from the government. He actually laughed when he said it. Stossel asked him if he didn’t know the claims were phony. “NO, most people are honest and they’d hesitate to lie on a government form.” What a crock! Would attorneys hesitate to lie also? HA!!!!

A black attorney was also featured and had filed some of the claims of black farmers and THEN he investigated and found them fraudulent. He figured he’d made $40-$50 million but didn’t state whether he’d returned any of the fees. Some actual black farmers were on also and they had nothing but contempt for the entire swindle - as any right minded person would. Sad that right minded people don’t work for the government.

These blacks collected $50,000 if they had merely ATTEMPTED to farm - if they had potted plants, that was considered farming in someone’s mind...

Sick.

I hate to tell you my friend but you are about 25 years late on the City of Alanta situtation. This has been the reality in Atlanta for many moons. Tell your son to move to Gwinnett or some other county and he should be a good candidate for the force. Atlanta is a lost cause. Whites need not apply.

Sir/Ma’am, as a police officer working in a large metropolitan city with high crime, I would recommend to your son to stay completely out of law enforcement. The social and political climate is such that employment in law enforcement is a losing proposition both personally and for personal safety.

More and more agencies are laying off officers or just shutting down for economic reasons, i.e. poor tax base, or no commercial or industrial enterprises to provide some tax base.

Some are lowering hiring standards to hire those who reflect the ethnic makeup of the area regardless of background or ability. Things like gang membership, prior hard narcotics use, felony arrests, and the inability to pass the written or oral exams are not barring some candidates from being hired.

I would never want your son or anyone else’s son or daughter to have a career end abruptly because they were repeatedly accused of perceived racial insensitivity, whether sustained or not. It’s not uncommon for some ethnic groups to start an incident with an officer, videotape the same, and carefully edit out anything that would exonerate or support the officer’s actions. This inevitably finds it’s way onto the internet or into a lawyers hands, who will sue for anything they can get for themselves and their clients.

There are those in police command staffs that believe in social justice and there is no shortage of young men like your son to go through until they can find one that will toe the line, or they can manipulate, or just cow into very selective enforcement (to save their jobs). Or even doing nothing at all.

In the near future, it will be extremely dangerous to be a police officer (or any emergency worker for that matter) in a major metropolitan area.

If your son is deadset on getting into the field, have him try to get on a department in the county that has a high tax base. There still are some places that one can have a rewarding career, but not like it used to be.

I’ve got a white cousin that’s been APD for 10 years now and he’s gotten several of his white friends hired. Of course...they are sparkingly clean inside and out. From what I hear...APD is desperate for warm bodies period...any warm bodies.

Maybe if the private sector paid better more talented young people would look for a non-government job. I agree that public sector unions have gotten way out of hand but the private sector has made it very clear what they think of American workers between their outsourcing jobs to China, their hiring of illegal immigrants, their refusal to hire older, more experienced workers to reduce their health care costs, etc. If the private sector needs more hard workers, you could’ve fooled me.

The American Dream worked for my grandparents. I do not believe it will work for my generation. We are entering one of the toughest job markets in US history where even people who want to work and are qualified to work cannot find work. If I work hard, it will be because I want to stay off the streets. I have no illusions about this country’s economic system; I know that more effort on my part will not advance me to the top, just enrich the corporate boss.
