After months of anonymously sourced reports that Katie Couric is planning to leave her historic anchors post at CBS News to launch a syndicated talk show in 2012, this morning brings more specific versions of the same, this time from APs David Bauder and POLITICOs Mike Allen.
Allen, citing industry sources, reports Courics likely successor is Scott Pelley, who has spent 22 years at CBS and has been a 60 Minutes correspondent since 2002. Also in the running is Harry Smith.
Bauders list includes these two, but leads with Russ Mitchell.
Couric's contract is up in June. Neither CBS nor Courics spokesman would comment.
Yep, the worst ratings ever!
Just leave already, Katy.
Who really cares that she’s leaving? Other than her mother, who is watching Perky Miss Lefty?
Holy cow! Walter Cronkite's not the anchor there any more? Guess I've been out of the loop.
Couric did not bite and in fact pushed a Republican for a potential candidate which she had just profiled on her blog. Dave agreed he liked a Republican from Indiana; but then went back to defending Obama, as in hia not having time enough to get things "changed".
Dave then tried to bait Couric again and she stayed silent. Dave finally gave a small soap box speech himself, turned and looked down at Couric who laughed at him and acknowledged he was controlling the conversation- that it was his show.
Will look for the interview. I don't know if many know this but back during the epidemic flu, Couric& Friends had tried to get out actually numbers of infected people from the White House and could not get what was promised as transparency in our government. A few months went by and they got a response saying it was not important for them to have the numbers--this is when I noted a change in Couric.
Seeing her support a Republican on Letterman was a Time Zone experience. dododoo dodododoooo
Good riddance. Now if ABC will get rid of Diane Sawed-Off, maybe the news will at least be watchable again. DS always looks like her hemorrhoids are flaring up.

Here it is !......... bringing up Minnesota's Tim” Pawlenty socially conservative Republican on her web site.. young up and coming...and conservation Mitch Daniels .. Trump Letterman said was just playing not serious. Dave had no use for Pawlenty. 7 minutes
What’s CBS?
Let’s take bets on who CBS with bring in... My guess is it will be Bill Maher.
That’s the genius type of thinking they have over there at CBS. Whoever decided to go with Katie Couric should be fired if they have not left CBS already. They just wasted a lot of money.

“CBS News has three problems:”
Actually, it’s the format itself that is dead, and nothing can save it. Nightly “news”, just like daily “news”papers and weekly “news” magazines, is as obsolete as the dodo bird. There’re now multiple ways to keep up with the “news” as it happens in real time or near real time, so by the time one reads something that is printed or listens to a nightly “news” extract, there’s nothing new at all about it.
Pretty much the only folks still watching ABCCBSNBC are the ones that were watching when Cronkite, Huntley and Brinkley, and Harry Reasoner were being broadcast. As one poster said here a few days ago, “ABCCBSNBC nightly news loses a bit of their market share every time another body bag is wheeled out of a nursing home.”
“She will host a talk show and still be on the air. Oh well. “
The Rush and Katie show. Fair & Balanced!
I know, but it takes up valuable forum space, and that just pisses me off.
... on that note, I’m going to go wait for the sun to come up, so I can stare at it until those images are burned from my retinas.
