Acting on the birthday of labor rights leader Cesar Chavez, the state Senate on Thursday approved "card check" legislation that would give farmworkers seeking union representation an alternative to a secret-ballot election.
Senate Bill 104 passed by a 24-14 party-line vote with Democrats in favor and Republicans opposed. It would let workers unionize if a majority of employees sign and submit petition cards to the Agricultural Labor Relations Board. The bill, sponsored by the United Farm Workers union, also includes steeper penalties for employers who seek to block workers from unionizing.

Those Rats in CA want to bury the state deeper in debt.
Farmers had played a role in encouraging illegal immigrants into this country by opposing e verification and opposing anti illegal immigration laws. They thought they can enjoy the fruits of cheap labor and dump the social costs onto the taxpayers. Now enough illegals are on their farms, and now they will unionize and sue the farmer for everything. For a long long time real Americans kept asking these farmers and short sighted businessmen, how long before these illegals if they are granted amnesty or backed by Dems will organize them into unions and demand “American” wages?????? I hope these farmers made a ton of money, they are going have to live off of it when they are forced to close the farms due to very high union labor costs.
Proof of Citizenship (as in their voting booths, also), is not required.....just put an “X” in the “Yes” box, and we’ll take your dues and send millions to the Socialists/Progressives, etc. to protect you.
Giving someone an alternative implies they get to make a choice. How does a worker that wants to continue to use the secret ballot do that?
No thanks thugs. We'll pick our own damn strawberries.
Another facet is the fact that many of these farmers think they will be able to keep their land.
Not so. Environmental policy and water policy is disguised communism for the purpose of private property confiscation. They will make the land worthless and then take it for taxes.
The union jobs will go too, plus the cost of food to the relatives supported south of the border will be a fatal surprise for many, just not the union bosses and Rat politicians.
Get ready for $10 lettuce.
