Ten United Nations staff were murdered - two by beheading - after extremists stormed their compound in northern Afghanistan today.

Protesters broke into UN offices in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif after a demonstration against Koran burnings in the America turned violent.

A small breakaway group attacked the UN compound, throwing stones and climbing on blast barriers to try to gain entry. They seized weapons from guards and opened fire before storming the site.

An Afghan police source, who asked not to be named, said the chief of the mission in the city was wounded but survived.

Among those murdered were Norwegian, Romanian, Swedish and Nepalese nationals. Two were decapitated, it is understood.

A UN spokesman confirmed that workers had been killed at the mission, but he said the situation on the ground was still confusing and it was difficult to 'ascertain facts'.

Staffan De Mistura, the top UN representative in Afghanistan, was heading to Mazar-i-Sharif to handle the matter personally, he added.

Over a thousand demonstrators had flooded into the streets of the normally peaceful city after Friday prayers, where they heard reports about the Koran burnings in America last month.

Hmmm... Members of an organization that supports terrorist regimes murdered by members of a terrorist religion.

And they say the universe has no sense of humor.

I think we should burn Korans because they killed people, and tell them that every time they kill people, they will be inciting Koran-burnings, so the burnings will be THEIR fault, and THEY will suffer for it.

That was what I was thinking. I consider this to be a red on red fratricidal fire incident, as is the whole Libyan conflict.

When the enemy is killing himself, let him.

All this reminds me of that classic joke punchline:

“It’s jest that we ain’ started playin’ Cowboys and Muslims, yet.”

I’m ready to start playin’.

Isn’t this the same group of people that destroyed the 165 ft high buddhist statues?
I am not a Buddhist, but that was not a very nice thing to do against another religious group.
And now they are complaining about burning a book? killing innocent people..
Talking about taking things out of proportion.
My attitude is: No, I wouldn’t like it if you burn a Bible, but I am not going to punish you or kill you.
My God can defend Himself if He wishes to, He doesn’t need my help.

If the Florida pastor hadn't burned a Koran they would have rioted and killed some infidels because someone in a Swedish chat room had said Muslims have ugly goats

Could well be. But somehow I can't give the FL minister a pass either. His actions were intended to be provacative....and they succeeded. Maybe the UN staff would've been killed over something else....maybe not.

The minister's response to the murders is careful to not even mention his actions. Does he not defend them because they are...indefensible?

Talk about throwing gasoline on a fire..

I don't care how much of a ass the Florida pastor is. The loons in Afghanistan killed a bunch of people who have nothing to do with him and probably wouldn't support him. This had nothing to do with the pastor in Florida. The responsibility is solely 100% theirs.

A Middle East Liberals version of a rent-a-mob. And truth be told, the liberals here in the US would do this as well if they though they could get away with it. Leftists are leftists no matter how they cloak themselves.

Please tell me how you know the intent was to be provocative rather than reciprocal and/or protest?

Look, very few people knew the ‘religion’ was basically evil back at 9/11. I don’t think Bush knew - but I do believe Obama knows... and THAT’S the issue. Now that we know, what are we going to do?

I never cease to be amazed by the cowardly bastards that think anyone believes their convoluted “reasons” for berating the non-violent while only giving a passing nod to the actual perpetrators.

At the risk of being flamed here...I say that Rev. Scott has a lot of blood on his hands. He knew he would provoke a response. It’s like punching someone and not expecting to get punched back. Rev. Scott how did this bring glory to the Kingdom of G-d?
