Was it just a wrong turn, or something more sinister?
Marine base Camp Pendleton — one of the largest military bases in the country — is reportedly on high alert after three Middle Eastern men tried to enter the base last weekend on multiple occasions in multiple vehicles. And while the men initially claimed they didn’t know each other and simply took a wrong turn, new information from a local gas station about “hateful comments” and “terrorist threats” casts doubt on their story:

According to a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert issued to high-ranking Camp Pendleton officials, someone reported hearing hateful comments and terrorist threats from three men at a gas station in Oceanside Saturday.
Investigators at Camp Pendleton said the men asked the attendant for directions on how to get to Camp Pendleton before they left the gas station.
According to the alert, shortly after midnight Sunday, a rented silver Toyota Corolla driven by Naeem attempted to enter Camp Pendleton through the main gate. As it was being searched, Petrossian and Avanosian drove up in a black Mercedes, but were told to wait. Instead, they continued past the gate and onto the base. Following a short pursuit, the Mercedes was stopped and searched.
No weapons or contraband were found in the Mercedes, but base security noticed the air bag in the steering wheel of the Mercedes had been pulled out and re-attached with duct tape and had wires hanging free, the alert said.
This combined with the Portland flight should be setting off alarms all over the place.

This is so scary. Not only because more attacks are being plotted and tested, but because we have an administration that doesn’t give a rip.
I call it pre-jihad recon.
I can see Eric Holder & Obama just drooling & grinning from ear to ear as they await news of these terrorist attacks so that they can move more anti-gun & pro-muslim legislations in place.

Hopefully, the pursuit was ended by sustained bursts of .50 cal.
If they did make it onto the base, and if they managed to fire weapons and slaughter innocent and unarmed military personnel - it would NOT be a terrorist incident.

Although I suppose its possible, its pretty hard to make a wrong turn into Camp Pendleton.
We should be treating muslims the same way they would treat an infidel in Mecca.
Why in the world is it “easy” to get on a military base!? When I was a kid, no sticker, and/or no military ID = no entry.

Could be that was the attack. We’ll spend millions now, and make it harder for non-terrorists to get on base (maybe they’ll inspect all airbags?)..
It costs money to ratchet up security, and more to make new policies, train everybody, deploy the new procedures, audit them, and all the paperwork.

Some of the Camp’s outlying buildings are pretty accessible off Mission Road. I got lost looking for a friend’s battalion office.

Attacks against a military target are generally NOT considered terrorism. Attack a nightclub full of civilians = terrorism, attack a military base full of soldiers = combat operation.

On the Air Force base, I have to weave through a maze of concrete-filled iron posts, Have my ID bio-metrically scanned by an armed guard, and after that there is a huge pop-up barrier about 200' after the gate that can stop a dump truck if the guard pushes the button.
Hmmm, making sure their trip to allah isn't thwarted by an airbag? If they plan to explode the car(s), why would they Cair about dismantling the airbags. Or do they intend to use the compartments to store their own explosive devices. Or the whole hanging wires mess is a diversion, but then again, Wile E. Jihadi ain't that smart.
Entering through the main gate? Not very bright. In the 60s-70s mexican groups trying to steal arms and peace protestors tried to and sometimes gained entry by way of some remote access points. Pendleton is a vast area with remote ranges and training areas. There was a story (maybe urban legend) that some peaceniks made their way into a remote area of the base at night but fortunately for them were spotted by an artillery observer near the impact area where a live fire artillery night training exercise was taking place.
It looks more like a toll booth than of a high security gate.

After questioning, all three men said they were headed to the same destination — Glendale. They were photographed and released. But that wasn’t the end of it. Later Sunday morning Naeem returned and again tried to enter the base, saying he was trying to get to the interstate. He was given a letter of debarment and escorted to the freeway, KGTV reports. A local security expert who does undercover work and asked only to be called “John,” told KGTV the incident sounds like a dry run.

“Number one: they went on base twice. Their stories didn’t stick, kinda wishy washy. Number two: the vehicle, the condition of the vehicle,” John said. “They could have been probing the security, not just cameras, sensors, individual security from MPs. Three: [they] could have wanted to know what background checks would have produced.” KGTV says it has learned that since the incident, high-ranking Camp Pendleton officials have notified other bases as well as law enforcement about a possible threat.

Older Than Dirt Alert here, but when I grew up, Marines manned the gates, and I am telling you, NO ONE in their right mind tried to run ‘em unless they were in the market for a new set of tires : o

With the massive numbers of immigrants in the country today I don't suppose it would be too difficult to fake IDs, and Armenia being a tiny Christian country surrounded by muslim ones, an Armenian ID would make the most sense for someone who appeared to be middle eastern.
On the other hand, maybe Armenia is mad at us, I dunno.
Little black helicopters are helping our enemies in Libya.
The State Department has heretofore denied the existence of both the black helicopters and that we have islamic enemies.
