Most Americans believe, as they were told by the media and taught in schools and colleges, that the Cold War “ended” with events including the so-called “collapse” of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the demolition of the Berlin Wall in November 1989. However, those who are aware of the true scope and nature of the international communist menace know that the Soviet Union truly never collapsed, but instead, has metastasized and adopted new and deceptive forms in the Russian Federation.
KGB defector Anatoliy Golitsyn has made the supposed “collapse” of the Soviet Union the subject of his 1986 book, The Perestroika Deception, which outlines the staged fall of the Soviet Union. Golitsyn writes that there is a devious secret intent behind the Leninist strategy which the "former" Communists are pursuing under cover of fake "reform" and "progress towards democracy." The immediate strategic objective is "convergence" with the West -— on their terms, not ours.
Similarly, 21st century Russia has not truly advanced beyond the political models and paradigms associated with communist totalitarian aggression. Russia has pursued a steady course of state capitalism, and is far from having a free market or a free society; the economy is heavily regulated and nationalized, and includes mega-corporations which operate under government sanction and assistance, such as petroleum and natural gas giants Gazprom and Lukoil, which are under the control of a few well-heeled oligarchs, who have amassed wealth, influence, and power under government sanction.

...it’s an interesting article however.
Gorbachev is an idiot.
He is an Obama of Soviet Union and not in a position to label anyone as communist.
He did his best to keep communism in power before Yeltsin thrown him away.
At the same time Putin maybe just a half inch to the left from Reagan.
The way he has established domestic affairs is more conservative than it is in most Western nations including America nowadays.
There is no NWO and Soros in Russia today, his beloved agents are imprisoned or exiled.

Its not entirely objective. Russians enjoy freedoms and prosperity unimaginable in the Soviet time. There is of course a great deal of work to be done to build a rule of law state, a civic society and bring an end to official impunity and corruption. This is a project that will last many lifetimes. The collapse of the Evil Empire brought about good changes and bad changes and on the whole it has been positive. After twenty years we can say the momentum towards more freedom in Russia is irreversible. There is no going back to the totalitarian past.

Sure, in my opinion they are ahead the West in terms of personal freedom now.
As for a political aspect it is yet to catch.
At the same time look who is complaining on lack of political freedom there.
These include Russian Communist Party and their extremist Bolshevic pals, Soros and his Russian branch lib gang, including former Yeltsin Democrat cabinet members who are starving away from their corrupt incomes right now.
I like the way how these Putin’s opponents who would kill any freedom as soon as they to get into office are asvertised as ‘freedom fighters’ by MSM.

Gorbachev has forgotten just how much of a true believer he was himself up until the last days of his rule.
Agreed regarding Gorbachev, but I wouldn’t underestimate Putin’s communist leanings. Don’t forget, he did brag about still having his KGB card with pride, and also compared Communist statutes to the Ten Commandments (and Lenin’s tomb to Christian relics, while we’re at it), and, perhaps most damningly, he actually hosted the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students Communist event, and even gave a speech voicing solidarity with the movement.
Even if Gorbachev is more of a communist than Putin, it’s not by much.
