The slogan to the Marin Convention and Visitors Bureau is "Marin: It's just a little out there." Their site also notes that "It's different here. And not by accident." One difference is that Marin is the culturally, pretty plain vanilla. It's probably not a shock that of all the pockets and regions in the Bay Area, Marin County is the least diverse of them all. Or translated differently, Marin has one of the highest percentage of Caucasians. While this is most likely a well known fact, The Bay Citizen last week confirmed this, in compiling the 10 Whitest Cities in the Bay Area list.
The affluent county includes seven of the 10 whitest communities in the Bay Area, according to the latest census figures.
The Caucasian population of all the towns on the list comprised of 90% or more of the entire populations. The other 3 spots went to Diablo in Contra Costa County (92% white), Monte Rio in Sonoma County (91% white) and Portola Valley in San Mateo County (91% white).
The lack of diversity is an issue for Marin. . . .

I find it interesting that Hispanics are never counted as being white *except* when it comes to crime statistics. Then they are counted as white.
Folks I live in Sonoma County just north of Marin County. It may be all white but it is one of the most liberal counties in America. I doubt 10% of the people that live there Republicans. Just a guess.

Marin county didn’t happen by accident. It is OUTSIDE of San Francisco. Duh. If Marin is conqured, those that built it will move on to a better place and make it their own. And it is not all white. It is wealthy folks of all colors who don’t want to live in a slum while paying confiscatory taxes and being vilified for not giving more of their “fair share”. It may be called white flight, but more and more it is flight of folks who want to give their kids a better life.
Which slogan to go with?

A friend is a radiologist in the Bay Area and considered moving to Marin County from Hong Kong. After attending a party in Inverness, he said the whining of the native Californians drowned out the sound of the surf along the Point Reyes National Seashore.
They are white enough to have their own Tea Party.
Truer words were never spoken about Marin. The people there were always railing against the State when Reagan was governor but somehow problems were never the fault of Jerry Brown when he took over.
Yeah it is an issue. It's a positive selling point. Hey Marin, don't mess it up!
