Barbarians within: Why Brit-style riots could spread to US
NY Post ^ | March 27, 2011 | Michael A. Walsh

They were cleaning up the mess in London yesterday -- replacing the windows at the Ritz, fixing the wooden façade at Fortnum & Mason and attending to a vandalized Trafalgar Square in the wake of Saturday's protests -- and riots -- by trade unionists and anarchists.

Think it can't happen here? Think again.

The British press reports that up to half a million people took part in the demonstrations, 200 were arrested and more than 160 injured -- including 84 police officers, 11 of whom had to be hospitalized.

Why? Because Prime Minister David Cameron announced a $130 billion cut in public spending and this is how the infantile left reacts when its I've-got-mine-Jack gravy train is threatened.

The weekend demonstration was led by Britain's powerful Trades Union Congress, whose leader, Brendan Barber, has been warning for more than a year that "industrial unrest" would greet any Tory government that dared attack Britain's sky-high social spending.

Addressing the gathering in historic Hyde Park was Ed Miliband, the Labor Party's new hard-left leader (his father was a prominent Marxist), who likened the protesters to the suffragettes, the US civil-rights movement and the fight against apartheid in South Africa. Which ought to tell Britons all they need to know about their prime-minister-in-waiting.

In the aftermath of the all-too-predictable violence -- in Trafalgar Square, the words "fight back" and "Tory scum" were scrawled on the bronze lions and red paint was splashed on the 2012 Olympics countdown clock -- there was the usual tut-tuting

We have not prepared for that day for nothing. We are not England... and the anarchists will find out.

Actually, the barbarians are running the country.

Just my opinion - but what we have witnessed in London is just another Leftist technique to steal the political stage. 500,000 trade unionists apparently gathered to protest government budget cuts. 500 well organized and prepared anarchists rioted and trashed Trafagar Square with all the standard symbolic gestures of the exremist Left. They steal the moment from the other 499,500 non-violent attendees, as the entire event is defined by the media in terms of a riotous “anti-capitalist” demonstration.

Our problem is STILL that we and they are playing by completely different rule books in a culture war to the death (of western civilization).

When will we learn?????

People of good will on both sides need to stand strong against intimidation and violence and insist that such questions be settled at the ballot box -- and that the results be respected. In any contest, there gets to be two teams on the field, not just one, and the game can only be played if both sides follow the rules.

The ballot box has been corrupted, results not respected, rules not followed, and representatives no longer represent their constituents.

The Tree of Liberty is parched and withering... in need of its natural manure.

We’ve already seen them in Wisconsin.

If the GOP ever has the courage to deep-six spending, the rent a mobs will be out in the streets.

Count on it.

2008 was a test run.

Now, they have accomplices at the top of the Federal Reserve, Treasury Deaprtment, Justice Department and White House.

If this tiny group of vandalous troublemakers was so dwarfed by the “peaceful” protesters — why didn’t the peaceful protesters swarm them and stop them?

I think we should be glad that this type of anarchy is NOT prevalant in this country...

Sure we have the Unions crying like a bunch of [expletive deleted]...But thats just their style...Most of those people in those ranks coldn’t really tell anyone why or what they are exactly displeased about, so that just takes away any credibility to their protests...

I would hope that the sentements expressed here are reserved until those mobs hit the suburbs, and those of us who have businesses in the populated urban areas make sure you have your insurance updated in case of such unrest...

I also believe we know where the line is drawn, and those who are prepared to react to such unrest, if it comes to that, but we all hope it doesn’t come to blows...

Both sides of this equation need to be careful what they wish for...Nobody is going to win in the worse case senario...

Just my opinion...

EVEN HERE ON FR, FOR PETE’S SAKE!!!, you get masses of IDIOTS who LOVE unions, and swallow their BS hook, line, and sinker.

That was essentially my comment in a Steyn thread on these riots. Nothing like them will happen in concealed carry states, especially those with no-duty-to-retreat laws. A few hooded punks would get shot by citizens, and that would be that.

BTW, Mark Steyn’s take on those riots is worth reading. He happened to be in London.

“the mid-1960s all over again”

BUT,
The MID 60’s saw race riots (Watts in ‘65, Detroit and Newark in ‘67)..the LATE 60’s saw anti-war and leftist riots such as the ‘68 ‘rat Convention and the Weathermen’s ‘69 “Days of Rage,” both in Chicago. The difference with today is that the industrial union members, aka Hardhats, resisted the punks in the streets. Nowadays, the AFL-CIO could be expected to lead the charge for the left in some cases, especially if commie creep Richard Trumka remains in control.
