WINTER PARK Jamie Pizzi, a freshman at Rollins College, said she never meant to come across as racist or hateful in the opinion piece she wrote for the campus newspaper last week.
But the essay that's sharply critical of immigrant children has spurred an outcry from some students and faculty.
And while she's upset by all the negative attention including nasty e-mails and comments left on The Sandspur website she said she stands by her writing.
"I don't regret what I wrote," Pizzi said. "I regret it was taken that way."
Pizzi's essay questions whether babies born in the United States to illegal immigrants should be automatically given U.S. citizenship. It's accompanied by a picture of a green alien that has apparently taken a guy's clothing and TV.
"These 'anchor babies,' as they are commonly referred, gain full citizenship from simply being born on American soil, and they are entitled to all the same benefits as you and I, including: free public school educations, financial aid for college and even Medicaid," she writes.

Change.
Well, good heavens muffy, where are the rolly colly parents to get ‘help’ around the house if they come out against illegals?
This Pizzi girl needs to be supported by us!
Typical. Express a conservative opinion at a college or university and watch the angry leftists swarm like a hive of killer bees. How long before this young lady will be forced to leave the school for her own safety? This is how the left silences anyone who dares to disagree with their orthodoxy.
We must save Pizzi’s Honor..............
“One-way tolerance” is better characterized as “coercion”.
It’s called “academic freedom”, Jamie.
Look up “Newspeak”, since it probably won’t be explained to you in your classes.
In such cases Muslim fathers always try to keep the children...then pawn them off onto female relations. The key is to seize the children and have them grow up in the Muslim universe (of the false prophet)
Bs is a brilliant show. I don’t always agree with the view points, but often I think they are spot on. My favorite episode was the global warming one...they absolutely demolish Al Gore.
Pizzi is absolutely right. They treat the US as an ATM and their loyalties...MOST of them are not with the country which gave them their freebies. I have no problems with married servicemen who bring their foreign wives over because they deserve it for the sacrifice they make, as an exception.
Although members of the paper's staff said they were shocked at the criticism the piece drew two faculty members even blasted it in e-mails they distributed campus-wide, they said
I'm sure said faculty members called for the retraction and muzzling of any such free speech they disagreed with.
For those that don't know, Rollins is a small, expensive college just outside Orlando. Well-regarded but flamingly liberal.
