Wisconsin Democrats still not allowed to vote even after returning to the state
March 14th, 2011 7:30 pm ET

The Wisconsin Democratic state senators have now returned to the state, but they are still not having their votes counted in committee. Today Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald sent a letter to his members telling them that the Democrats' votes should not be counted since they are still in "contempt." It is the Republicans who passed a resolution officially holding the Democrats in contempt. Fitzgerald's letter can be seen below.

"Please note that all 14 Democrat senators are still in contempt of the Senate. Therefore, when taking roll call votes on amendments and bills during executive sessions, Senate Democrats' votes will not be reflected in the Records of Committee Proceedings or the Senate Journal. They are free to attend hearings, listen to testimony, debate legislation, introduce amendments, and cast votes to signal their support/opposition, but those votes will not count, and will not be recorded."

Make the AWOL RAT Fleas pay for the mess their pals made in the capitol building. Or - hand 'em a mop and bucket.

You libs had your chance.

You sneered and gave everyone the finger.

Actions have consequences.

Now the left can live with it.

I think they have to wait until the contempt resolution is brought before the Senate in regular session. Right now, that is scheduled for April 6th, I believe.

I’m not sure how it works in the WI state legislature, but I am guessing it is similar to a court proceeding. If you are held in contempt, depending on the KIND of contempt (typically it’s where you’re cursing at the judge and demonstrating that you won’t behave in an orderly fashion), you will not be heard from further until you “purge the contempt,” typically by paying a fine, stating an apology in open court, something of that nature.

Can the rats be brought up before the ethics committee and expelled from the senate?

So what's new. Rats are held in contempt everyday. These Rats are a joke.

I'd pass a few bills (like a carbon copy of Utah's gun laws) and reschedule the resolution to get them in sooner. It is better to appear conciliatory while shoving it down their throats than to look like one is playing games.

Realizing their continued absence was no longer doing any good, many of the Wisconsin Democrats returned...

Yeah, that is exactly what happened. The republicans moving on without them had absolutely nothing to do with it. Oh, good grief.

When things settle. A THANK YOU crowd of 1000’s of orderly, polite folks should go to Madison and get some air time.

Anyone else worried about the precedent this sets? I’m happy with fining them, docking pay, etc., but what is to stop the Dems from doing this to the Repubs if the tables are ever turned - using some pretense to hold them in contempt and then running rampant?

I don’t mean to imply the contempt order in this case is a pretext.
